Absolutely loved this place. The old buildings really brought the 1800's to life. Just wish the bars weren't so restrictive when trying to take pictures inside the buildings. But the detail was definitely amazing. Also, insect repellent is a must in the summer months.

Lots of history and tons of beautiful sights here. There is a church that is available for weddings. They also have special events during the year so check out the calendar my kids love coming here. Don't forget your your hiking shoes and camera.

This is a beautiful place with a lot of history. The husband and wife who operate it are very friendly people. I know they allow weddings here also. Its set on a private road down by the Mississippi River.

I have visited the "The Canyon" many times and love to keep going back. It has many different things to offer everyone who visits. One cool aspect is that it is open daily for visitors to meander through the area.

Not 5 stars because of the terrain, I use a rollator and it was not too easy, but it is worth going here! One man's vision is preserved here to educate people about the real old days. If you go on certain days, like Dutch Days weekend, there are reenactors there while you tour. Even so, it is a pleasant walk near the Big Muddy, take your time and go on the nature walk. Then take those kids to roll down the grassy hills by the windmill - they love it!

I love going through heritage canyon, and have since I was little. It's interesting to see all the buildings and stores. The paths are well maintained, and the buildings are kept up. Going with kids in strollers or older people with difficulty walking is not advised, as it is a lot of walking and there are some steep areas. When you're done walking there, take a minute to sit along the Mississippi and relax.

The old houses and other structures are lovingly maintained and there is a lot to learn about life in the old days. We especially liked the nature walk and we encountered a baby deer along the way. The park is at the site of a former limestone mine and the owners made it possible for us to enjoy it. There is a swinging seat on the bank of the Mississippi river by the park which provides a delightful evperience.

While visiting an attraction in Clinton (across the River), a couple suggested we visit the canyon. The walk through the canyon allowed us to step back into the 1800s to see various cabins, stores, a church and businesses. While no guides are around, it is very easy to tour on one's own. If you visit Fulton, don't miss this.

A great way to spend an afternoon with young children. You can go back in time to experience living in the wilderness.

Set in a wooded canyon near the Mississippi river. This is s replica of an early19th century midwest village. The buildings are very interesting, and the setting is quite beautiful.

I was as fascinated by the history of the place as I was by the town itself. The original owner purchased an abandoned quarry, cleared out the junk, and began painstakingly recreating a frontier town. The buildings and artifacts are amazingly authentic and detailed. Sadly the city of Fulton now owns the property, and there is a political battle regarding its future. In the meantime it depends on dedicated volunteers to maintain the property on a shoestring budget.

We have visited here many times with our grandchildren and each time we find something new to enjoy. It is so peaceful to just walk around and experience the feeling of nature and living in the past. There are 13 buildings to visit and don't miss the swinging bridge. It is easy to spend the day here looking at everything. There is a picnic area across the street on the Mississippi river as well as tables in the canyon so bring lunch. Four times a year the Early American Crafters are here and all the buildings are open and there are activities for everyone. Food is available at these events. A great value for the price, $2.00 for adults and $1;.00 for children this place is well worth a visit. It is close to Galena and just across the river from Clinton IA.

I always loved coming here as a child. Now when I bring my children I can experiance it through them. There are nature trails and buildings from the days of the pioneers. The buildings are open to visitors only during special occasions but it is still neat to look through the windows.
