I an an Italian engineer, living since 1 year in the Republic of Congo, where I work at the construction of a section of National Road from Brazzaville to Pointe Noire. So I'm very often in Brazzaville.A visit to this place is well worth. But we must keep in mind that the name "National Museum of Congo" is quite misleading. In fact this elegant dome shaped construction, built in white marble, is not a "Musée National", but the "Mausolée de Brazza", meaning a monument erected in the memory and celebration of Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza, explorer, the first white man to visit this area and get in touch with the local populations. And, incidentally, he baptized the place after the name of his father's native place (Brazza, a village in the mountains of northern Italy), from where his family originated, before emigrating to France. To his great glory it must be said that, at times when colonizing Africa was done on gunpoint through the brutal force of weapons and massacres of the populations, the then "French Congo" was taken without a single shot, through treaty of friendship with the local King. So, do not expect a Museum, or you'll be deceived.Prepare rather yourself to pay due respect to a Great Man, such as nowadays are getting unfortunately so scarce.....The Republic of Congo wanted the mortal remains of Him and his family to rest with them, as friends, and paid for constructing this beautiful building, to honor them. In Europe, his name is hardly known. An this is a shame on us Europeans.

Worth a brief stop for some interesting masks and tribal artifacts. There are more and better quality items in museums throughout Europe and the USA. An mildly interesting diversion at best.

This is the mausoleum of Pietro de Brazza, who founded the city named after him. He was an enlightened man who believed in negotiating with the local tribes instead of subjugating them. The whole area is pleasant and clean. Upstairs is a history with photos and artefacts, and downstairs are the graves of him and his family: they were exhumed and brought here to be united. Outside is a rather unflattering statue of the man himself. You may need your passport/ID card to gain entry. Highly recommended.

My family and I visited the congo for 6 days. The congo is a very small country compared to the bigger congo which was called Zaire. We enjoyed the museum and eating at the Mandarin restaurant. We were staying at the Potal hotel. You can visit their website potalhotel.com. This hotel is unique with upgraded features. We enjoyed the cleanliness and friendly staff. Its the best hotel in congo.Another great restaurant is the Noura located downtown. They serve imported drinks like heineken and smirnoff.
