ohanapecosh visitor center

the locals had a colorful, albeit imaginary origin of the nameI prefer fewer centers and more nature but, it has its purpose.

We LOVED this spot. We were here to camp for two nights and it was so beautiful. The sound of the river was amazing and we had a very nice camping spot. Making reservations online was simple and when we got there, our spot was already labeled with our name. Easy as can be!Not a lot of sunshine in the campground area but that was OK because we appreciated the privacy from other campers.Great trails for hiking and nice spots for just sitting and enjoying nature. They do have fairly strict rules - and one of them was about "quiet" hours which we didn't realize until someone told us we couldn't have our generator going in the early evening. But it was not a big deal - we actually felt bad about it and except for a few minutes in the morning, we kept the generator off.

An alright place. It was a little crowded, and dark. The hearing exhibit thing was out of order, which stunk. The Hot Springs Natural Trail nearby was neat.....but it was pretty much a walk next to the camp ground, but the HOT SPRINGS were awesome. I loved the experience! I will come here again if in the area.

perhaps the least busiest of the visitors centres in Mount Rainier National Park. A few good trails begin near to this places, especially the Grove of the P. and the Naches Peak (both excellent)

We went into the Visitor Center to pick up Junior Ranger booklets but this review is mostly about the trail right outside the doors. (My brother browsed the visitor center for a while and seemed to enjoy the exhibits.) The trailhead for the Hot Springs Nature Trail is right outside of the visitor center. The trail is a fairly easy one with minimal elevation change if any. It was a great one for my parents (73 and 77 with no hiking experience) and my brother's family with 8-month-old baby in a baby carrier. You start out in a mostly forested area. Before the loop back around you come across hot springs. People were soaking their feet in the springs and mud. I guess it was pretty hot and therapeutic.As you come back around it's pretty easy to find your way back to the visitor center. You end up walking through the paved road of the Ohanapecosh campgrounds. You can be back to your car in :30 which happens to be the parking limit in front of the center.I'd recommend this for beginning hikers and those who want to take it easy.

I need to write 50 words or they will not publish the review. How can the Nation Park service think the can make money when the visitor centers are closed and no one is there to collect the entrance fee or the camping permit fee etc.

Ohanapecosh is one of my favorite parts of the park. There is so much to see and do. The scenery is amazing. The only useful part of the Visitor center is to pick up a map and get my passport book stamped.

Amazing hike past the hot springs (like Yellowstone!) to Silver Falls. It is a moderate hike about three miles total. I could have stared at the falls for hours. Mesmerizing!

Complain to your representatives out because it is a shame to close this little gem right in the campground. It is a great starting point for visitors looking for information. There are things the little ones can actually touch...beaver tails, elk horns. But sadly unavailable now due to the feuding, anti-tax bunch. I would pay a few extra bucks to open it if I could!

We thought this visitor center felt a little isolated, unused and empty. It was also fairly dated. We enjoyed a short walk from here (Hot Springs Nature Trail) and it was worth the stop considering we were passing but I don’t think it is worth going out of your way for.

Maybe this is for most people who are campers in that area. The Rangers are very good with the information.

We camped with a large group over 4 sites. The area was beautiful with good ground cover throughout. The nearby stream and river were also fun for the kids to play with, but be careful with the log jams from the 2006 flooding - I wouldn't recommend climbing or playing on them especially for kids. Nice quiet campground with good facilities, no showers however. The visitor's center was great for learning more about the area. Rangers were helpful and kept on top of things.

Haven't been there camping for a couple years. Enjoyed it alot so was driving by & wanted to stop for a few hours to walk up to falls again. Was very disappointed to find out they only have about 12 day use parking spots. Therefore was unable to park for even a short time. Will not bother to just stop in again.

This campground is one of the most well maintained camp sites. Clean, scenic, river flowing through, great hikes. We stayed for a night but I wish if we could stay longer. There's a firewood guy which roams around the loops until late night, so don't bother bringing the firewood. There's a picnic bench and firepit for every camp site with a lot of privacy from neighboring sites.The silver falls hike is very nice and the falls at the end is gorgeous. Do the whole loop to get nicer views around the campsite. There's also suppose to be a hanging bridge to cross the river which we missed. The rangers don't advertise much. This site is very popular so book 3-4 months in advance. We plan to book ours next year in spring.

Walked from here to Silver Falls. Magical and not to be missed despite lack of promotion or information directing you there.
