Was in town for a granddaughters softball tournament. Looking for town history. Came to the depot but was not open any hours we could be there. Walked around to look at outside but could hardly see the architecture for the trees. The trees and shrubs need much attention so they are not the primary focus of the building. Hope to be back in Shawnee someday so can see the history inside.

A great spot to take kids and guests in town with no admission fee, just donations if you are willing. The kids are able to see the trains and find out the history of the area in the museum. A beautiful historical building with lots of fun architecture to view.

Its a small collection of Shanwee history along with railroad history. I like antique railroad sites so this was a nice little trip. They didnt ask us for admission but I donated a small amount. This would be good for small kids that like trains.

Santa Fe Days are held in September with something for everyone. Any other time you can visit the museum for a small donation and see all of the wonderful artifacts and a few things friom your childhood that will bring back great memories. It is also a great place to take pictures. It is the most photographed sight in Oklahoma and makes a wonderful background.

Two lady friends and I drove to Shawnee for one of our exploring Oklahoma day trips. Our first stop was the RR museum. Seeing its lighthouse-style tower peering above the buildings in the historic district helped us find the place. Architectural features include a rusticated-stone exterior with arches leading you into a portico. The museum entrance was around the side of the building. The exhibits include a model railroad whose miniature buildings reflect other historical buildings in the town. After we finished touring the museum, we headed off to lunch at Benedict Street Marketplace.
