A very nice museum that contains a ton of history of the area and the surrounding islands. There is a ton of great history around this area, going all the way back to the native Calusa.

Museum of the Islands in Bokeelia, FL is a great little local museum located in the original public library building and staffed entirely by volunteers. There are plenty of interesting displays and articles to engage and enlighten you on the local history and native plants and wildlife. The volunteer staff are knowledgeable and dedicated to ensuring your visit is pleasant. A brief look at the visitor's book shows guests from many places in the US and abroad. Museum of the Islands truly is a treasure.

As a genealogy junkie, it is hard to pass up a little historical museum, and this one was a treat. The Museum of the Islands is located in the former public library in what appears to be "downtown" Pine Island. The volunteers were really friendly and knowledgeable and toured us around, but you can take an audio tour if you prefer. I like the interactive question and answer portion so that worked great for me. There was lots of local history, nature and craft exhibits when we were there, and the shell exhibit included thousands of shells, and fossils from a local archaeological site. Inexpensive -- think it was $2.00 per person when we stopped. Easy parking in a lot by the tennis courts. Word to the wise, check the hours because they are limited.

A nice break from fishing, and/or bad weather. Very interesting, especially Native American history of Pine Island. Well worth the visit. Knowledgeable and friendly hosts.

The Museum of the Islands is located in the former public library in "downtown" Pine Island. We were warmly greeted by the all-volunteer staff who were very knowledgeable about all the exhibits. There is a wide variety of local history, nature and craft exhibits. The nature exhibits include over 1700 different sea shells, fossils from a local archeological site, and native animals. The historical exhibits feature vintage household artifacts, an extensive doll collection, and fishing displays. Don't miss the fabulous hand crafted baskets and trays made from local Slash Pine needles. Well worth the afternoon. With an admission price of only $2.00, I'll be back on my next trip. Be sure to check the hours, because it's only open for about 4 hours a day.
