Dear Grand Canyon West Visitors, If you are planning to drive to Grand...

Don't waste your precious vacation time and your hard-earned money on this contemptuous monument to boundless greed. And to add insult to injury: The West Rim views can't possibly render you a true picture of the majesty of the Grand Canyon, either!!!For a genuine experience and a true measure of the Grand Canyon go to the South Rim, where you'd be treated to the magnificent offerings of Nature, and away from all the blatant displays of disdainful greed.Shame on those who have transformed this national treasure into a rip off scheme.

We stopped by on our way from the South rim of the Grand Canyon to Vegas. We did not realize that, after the long drive in the middle of nowhere, you cannot go beyond the airport/info centre without purchasing a $46 ticket for a bus tour we didn't even want (no self-drive option). Then it's another $30 to do the SkyWalk. Plus, you are not allowed cameras on the SkyWalk. We were on a tight schedule, so did not have time for a 1.5hr + bus ride. So we opted for a 15min helicopter tour (which we were considering doing anyway as a treat). I've reviewed this separately (Sundance Helicopter tours). You still have to buy the $46pp ticket, even though we never stepped foot beyond the airport area! Also the woman at the ticket desk was very unhelpful, being unable to give us times or definite departures for the tours and then charging us for the wrong tour (lucky I picked it up in time). We appreciate that it's a reservation, and respect the local native tribes' decision to pursue tourism, however we wish we had done our research and saved ourselves the trip. Coming from seeing the South Rim (fully accessible with only a $25 fee per family valid for 7 days), we feel the scenery was much better at the South. If you can, make the trip to the South rim and stay a night or two nearby/in the national park. Views are better, access is 1000x better, and overall better value for money. If you really only have a day and are coming from Vegas, this is the closest place to view the Canyon. Just be prepared for the costs and type of activity you want.

I could not wait to write this review ! We visited the West Rim after looking at all the reviews and really did not know what to expect but i am so GLAD that we came ! We were traveling with 2 adults and 3 kids one under 2 so we did not have to pay for her. The cost for our family was 160.00 but the money goes to help build schools , boys and girls clubs and to improve where they live and I feel that is great use. Like any where you go there were gift shops but you do not have to buy ! We bought the basic package and it was WONDERFUL and WELL worth the money that was paid. My children really enjoyed the first stop "The Hualapai Ranch" we were greeted with cowboys and they were really interactive with us as well as the kids, we also were able to take a wagon ride that was included in the fee.The second stop was "Eagle Point" that is also where the Skywalk was. We did not do the sky-walk and I do not feel that we missed anything the pictures that we took with our own personal camera were AMAZING. The Native American did authentic dances that were very good and you can also buy food there if you did not get the meal plan and they have burgers etc so no need to pay for it in advance if you are doing the basic package. Our last stop was Guano Point...Me and my boys were able to do the High Point Hike and the view from the top of High Point was unbelievable nothing short of Heavenly...I tried to make this short and include as much as I could so to me with my children it was GREAT I have no regrets. Wear closed to shoes if you plan on attempting the High Point Hike, For Us We Did Not Miss Anything Bypassing The Sky-Walk so it is up to you and I took kids aged 17, 12 and 2 and they all really enjoyed it ! If you have young think about bring a wagon we bought one from Sams that folds up and it really came in handy my daughter was able to lay down when she was tired and it kept her from being fussy ! remember you can bring in water and you will need it in the hotter months...So over all we give the West Rim 5 stars it was really great for the Kids !

We enjoyed our visit to the Hualapai Sky Walk, Grand Canyon West.We had previously visited South Rim and wanted to do the Sky Walk. They do have you as a captive audience and it's pretty pricey in my opinion. For my husband I we spent around $165.00 (not including car hire). We hired a car and drove out from Las Vegas, around 2 hours each way. We purchased our tickets for the bus trip at approx $40-00 each and were surprised when we got the the Sky Walk to be told we have to pay another approx $35-00 each to walk on the Sky Walk, this was not explained to us. If you actually take a guided tour from Las Vegas, this is a very expensive day out. If you're a family, I believe it would be too expensive and you would be better served to hire a Car and drive all the way out to South Rim and stay the night for approximately the same price. Plus I would be extremely uncomfortable with littlies due to the non existence of safety rails.South Rim is more like 4 hours - we drove out there on a previous visit, but stayed out in the area for a couple of days. There is no comparison between the two, South Rim is jaw dropping.I was a bit concerned with how close people were standing on the edge of the Canyon taking photos I have to say. It was a misty day on our visit and the Sky Walk is definitely something different. Surprised that the building attached to the Sky Walk is not yet open, I believe it's opening soon. The walks are completely undeveloped so if you are unsteady on your feet may prove a bit difficult. We decided we would have something to eat at the end of our trip and were surprised that the Cafe was closed at approx 4-00pm. They had muffins, sausage rolls etc in the Cafe, but we had to make do with a snack before our trip back to Las Vegas. If you have never been to the Canyon and have the time I would recommend South Rim, but this is worth a visit as long as you are aware of just how much it is going to cost.

I disliked that I didn't have or take the time to slow down and enjoy the scenery a bit more but the scenery and what nature did to make that scenery is amazing. Guess I just wished I'd have been on my motorcycle when I was driving through.

I was never big on wanting to see the GC, but as we were in Vegas and had a car. we decided to take a day and go to the Hoover Dam and the GC western rim. When we first arrived at the welcome center, we were hit with a $480 bill for a three stop tour, with sales staff that weren't very professional. They understood that as customers had made the trek out to them, that they were going to pay. We did, and soon there after were on a bus heading towards the first stop. It was a little western town set up with horseback rides, a saloon and a few other things. Not our cup of tea, so we passed on it. At this point, I was thinking that I had just wasted $480! Then, the bus took us to Eagle Point. In all fairness, the driver was very pleasant, and even slowed down to show us how Eagle Point got it's name. As we pulled up to the spot, the views really exploded. I was completely overwhelmed at how amazing the canyon truly was. There were no safety ropes and winds were quite strong - not sure if that made the experience better or worse. The skywalk was cool, but after seeing the views at the 3rd stop - Guano Point, we probably could have passed and saved the extra $200 we paid. In all, I understand that they are in the business of making money, and they were all very friendly. No regrets.

Too expensive, too many tourists, they cater to Asians (nothing against them, but they need to speak English and learn manners) this is not really the real Grand Canyon. Go to the south or north rim and see something special. We did not enjoy a minute of our visit.

My wife and I rented a car from Las Vegas and drove here after a stop at the Hoover dam. We had to speed a little to get here due to the in unanticipated time difference and the last ticket sale at 430 pm. It took roughly 1 hour and 20 minutes from the Hoover dam down 93 south. We were surprised at the $40 per person entrance fee and the $32 separate skywalk fee. Nonetheless it was an amazing experience walking out on the skywalk. There is still a lot of construction happening at the skywalk building so don't expect much. The staff was very friendly and were willing to help. Keep in mind that you cannot bring a camera on the skywalk. They will need to buff the glass soon due to the scratches and marks from the traffic on it but you could still see through it. I would recommend spending the majority of your time at guano point as this is the more picturesque spot of the 2 options. It makes a perfect 1-2 punch with stopping at the Hoover dam and seeing the Grand Canyon. All in all a great place to stop and an easy day trip as a change of pace from vegas.

Well worth seeing, we did a helicopter tour over the grand canyon as well as a ground tour on separate days. Once at the Grand Canyon West there are shuttle buses that take you to areas of the canyon and which come around about every half an hour to take you to the next area. Well worth going to see, but if you are short of time do a helicopter tour as it takes you right down into the canyon and you do see all the main areas as well as Hoover dam and Colorado river in only a couple of hours instead of a full day.You can find tours a lot cheaper if you book outside of your hotels with people that are between the walk ways of the hotels in Vegas, we did this and saved about $70 each.

This was our second trip to the grand canyon and we were very disappointed with this tour. We caught a bus from our hotel in Vegas to the grand canyon via the hoover dam which was all good, apart from the poor recorded audio narration on the bus. When we got to the canyon we were told we had 4 hours and that some of us had to rush because of all the things we had to do. Our first thing was a helicopter flight to the canyon floor, we did not even get ear plugs to do this so we all lost our hearing! we then had our boat ride on the Colorado river, and we only went half the distance we thought we would and it was that fast we done it in 15 minutes, the boat that left before us still hadn't got back by the time we got in the helicopter to return to the top, no time to site see as it happened so quick then the sky walk which was poorly run and the staff didn't want to be there at all you could tell. $475 AUS dollars and I would not recommend this to anyone, waste of money. The north rim is so much better to see and it would be worth the money to do it.

The activity is pricey but I was happy to pay as my money was going to the native americains tribe and for their education .We met some very inspirational Hualapai who were very happy to share their culture with us .The view is stunning and I advise you to rent a car and travel from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon it takes 2hours and 40 min and the journey is lovely .The Grand Canyon is the closest one from Las Vegas.

Do not know what the prior reviewer saw or expected, but they are dead wrong. We bought our tickets on line prior to going to avoid lines. We bought the package, which was the coach ride, Skywalk and meal at Guano point. This was well worth the experience. Would recommend being there early, 10 AM, or so. Views were spectacular and we thought better than east Grand Canyon.

I do lots of tours and excursions. This was a joke. Sure it is the grand Canyon but they are nothing short of highway robbers. The cost for the basic "look" at the canyon is 45$ a person. The Skywalk is another 40$ on top of that and you can't take your own camera. Stupid. I didn't pay to do the Skywalk. We wanted to do the helicopter ride...40 minutes. 20 in the air and 20 landed in the Canyon. The wall sign said that was 160$ a person...see the canyon and a helicopter ride? Sure. When we got to the desk they informed us you had to buy a ticket to the main bus tour too. You could not just pay for the helicopter ride. So 160 is now 200 a piece. I was a disgusted with the money grabbing that we only did the main fTour for 45 each. Such a scam. Sure it was beautiful...but I heard families being charged hundreds to get their families on the sky walk. That's ridiculous. I wouldn't say not to go but expect them to put their hands right into your pockets upon arrival.

Definitely worth the money - excellent views. Just wish there wasn't so many people...hard to get some pics when people won't leave. A lot of foreigners were there.
