great tour , but very harrowing when you some of the items in the museum .seeing the kiddies shoes and locks of hair is rather haunting . The lady who took us on the tour was very passionate and informative . I would recommendthis tour as long as you've got a strong stomach .

It is a deeply emotional visit but one I have to recommend. The reality that these camps and atrocities happened - and its not just staged for exhibits - hits you hard. I would recommend booking a small group tour (we did through Viator) as the experience is much more thorough and the guides very knowledgeable. I think it would be a lesser experience without the guide. My friend and I are still reeling emotionally and took the rest of the day off yesterday after but it really must be done.

Although an extremely harrowing place to visit, it is a must. Our English speaking tour guide was amazing and very informative. At times it was almost as if I felt I shouldn't be there. A very sad place. It is horrifying to learn of the true scale of their ordeal by standing where they once stood. I have no more words. It is simply somewhere you must go. Rest in peace

Auschwitz-Birkenau has always been on my to do list. I've read countless books on the camp but nothing can compare to experiencing it first hand. It's difficult to 'rate' such a place on TripAdvisor. We took a tour and our guide Aggie was exceptional. We were very lucky to have her sharing her knowledge. Visiting Auschwitz-Birkenau is a difficult day but something I believe every person should experience. I felt a wide range of emotions from sadness, anger, defiance, love and unity throughout the day. The things I saw in Auschwitz-Birkenau and the stories I heard and read will stay with me for life. The trip out here is well worth it. It's an emotive and challenging day but certainly opens your eye's and perspective on life.

Somewhere i've always wanted to visit. What can one say, it has an horrific history which hits home as you walk through the gates of both Auschwitz main camp and then Birkenau. Having seen films of both places i thought i was well prepared for what i would see and hear, but when you see the size of Birkenau and hear what inhuman events took place here, all earlier perceptions are quickly cast aside. The most chilling part for me was taking the long walk from the rail platform towards the demolished crematoriums at Birkenau, knowing i was walking in the footsteps of the many thousands who had unknowingly taken their final walk here over 70 years ago, to their deaths. I had a choice, they didn't !!!! I highly recommend a visit,no matter what your religion or nationality, to witness the inhumanity man is capable of !!!!

I wasn't sure how I'd feel about visiting auschwitz. Part of me feels like it's wrong to do a tour of such a place but then another part of me feels that such places should be visited 'lest we forget' and all that. It is odd standing right where so many people suffered and where so many lives ended but I think it is important to educate people via tours of such places. And the tours are really well done. Most of the tours involved each guest being provided with a headset that is tuned to their guides small headset microphone. this is a great way to do things as no one needs to raise their voice to be heard over other tour guides and it felt slightly more respectful to the surroundings to do it this way. You don't have to join one of these tours but I really recommend it. There are signs in English dotted around the site but our guide shared a lot of information that wasn't detailed on any signs I saw. Definitely worth the money. We arranged to visit auschwitz via the See Kraków tour company which picked us up from our hotel and insured everything went smoothly throughout our visit. It's a 45 minute drive from Kraków to auschwitz so I think it's worth booking a tour that takes all of the stress out of the journey time. And Poland is such a cheap country for us Brits that I promise you you can afford it. I opted for a combined auschwitz and salt mines tour which worked out as £48 in total and I could choose which days to do each tour. Perfect!

Harrowing place to visit but well worth a visit. I went when it was snowing and freezing and even though I was covered up well but you could feel what the prisoners went through when clothed in rags - the concentration camps were vast and eerie. Everyone needs to go to witness the horrors that happened which no-one can get their heads round that it actually happened/ Even though I had a tour guide I would like to go back as there were some rooms we never went in.

BrentCoverdale1908

Always wanted to visit. A must for everyone to understand the magnitude of what happened here during WWII. You do need a full day at least. A guided tour will help but you may feel rushed

Excellent place to visit, and be conscious of what blind conviction could do. Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II- Birkenau place you must-see in Europe, like Rome and Athens.

Chris_Wendy62

Whatever your reason if you want to visit you must. It is what it is. Well presented and, with my guide I left empty, fulfilled, numb and more knowing. The buildings are how they were and with the guides overview, perspective and assistance you feel like you are there just days after it was all over. Irrespective of where you are from, there is something here for everyone to understand, learn and remember. For me,there were two haunting points: walking up and down the stairs where they walked and walking down towards the last train carriage in Birkenau where it stopped and where it still stands. These are my memories - others will have theirs.
