This monument to the Sergius family has survived in the middle of Pula for over 2000 years and is a great ending to the top 3 of Pula.

You can't niss the place it is in front od main street Via Serii, and a lot's of tourists are around taking photos. It is old Roman arch and if you are fond of history you can look at Pulas "Golden Gate". It is erected betwen the years 29 and 27 BC by the Sergei family and it is why it is called Triumphal arch of Sergius. Porta Aurea is called bacause of its rich ornaments. It is built in Corinthian style.

It is the largest of the Roman gates/arches in Pula. None of them are outstanding in their own right but as a combination they are worth seeing. This one is worth a few minutes for a few photos.

The Arch is located at the entrance to the old city and you can imagine why it was called Triumphal as the road leads to the Temple of Augustus at the other end of the town. Near the Arch is the statue of the Irish writer James Joyce who appears to be sitting at an outdoor cafe. Evidently he taught at a school in the building behind the statue. An interesting juxtaposition of ancient and more modern.

First of many times we saw the arch, when getting off local bus. Pick your moment and vary arrival time when taking a photo as there is lighting issues from the sun and crowd issues from the tours.

We were determined to find the Arch and after wandering through most of Pula (or so it seemed) we walked through some shops and there it was at the end of the street! It's fascinating to see, especially with the contrast of the modern stores and businesses. Definitely worth stopping by and taking a look. Even the children were fascinated by its age and how great it looked.

That's history speaking there, awesome feeling of many many years. Nonetheless exhibition inside is quite poor

In a very good state of repair at the entrance to a major square on the edge of the old town and close to the statue of James Joyce. Interesting and worth photographing.

This arch (also known as the Golden Gate) is located at the south east entrance to the town centre and dates from about 30 BC.Look at the carvings of grapes on it and it amazing to think these are nearly 2000 years old.Just past the arch on the left is a building in which the famous Irish writer James Joyce taught in 1904 - 05.

Sorry Pula but you need a clean up.Too much grafitti, too much rubbish. Nearby Rovinj and Porec were so much better.

This well-preserved ancient structure provides a lovely contrast with the 'modern' buildings in close proximity. It's amazing to think that something that is so old is still in such good condition. The Triumphal Arch of Sergius certainly forms an interesting and impressive 'entrance' to the pedestrian-friendly shopping zone. A great photo opportunity.

One of the "compulsory" Roman historical buildings that you can find in Pula. You won't miss it, but nothing special.

A triumphal entrance to the main shopping area - probably the same route when it was erected around 30 BC !!!!The arch of Sergius (Sergi) was erected by a wealthy widow to commemorate the role played by her husband and brothers at the Battle of Actium, where a fleet commanded by Octavian (later Emperor Augustus) was victorious over Mark Anthony.Inscribed in honour of Lucius Sergius Lepidus it shows eagles, sphinxes, dolphins , leaves grapes, chariots and the Roman goddess of victory. You can't miss seeing it when walking from the arena.Pula has an excellent Tourist Information Office , a short walk from the arch.

We had a short visit and it was great. It is a nice place to look at it, and it is an interesting history attraction, but this is all.

Serving as an entrance into one of the main shopping areas of Pula, the arch is afascinating welcome into one of the older quarters of the town and leads the way to the old square
