What a wonderful gem in the Northwest part of Bulgaria. This place had me JUST by modern plumbing (yes, most attractions in Bulgaria don't have plumbing newer than the medieval era) before even seeing the beautiful landscape including intricate brickwork designs in the pathways. The cave is absolutely fascinating. I´ve seen many caves, especially in North America and some in Bulgaria but never one like this. What I loved the most (and what many might like the least) are the narrow spaces and the very low clearance areas that require one to contort and duck to pass through. There is even modern scaffolding and railings to hold on to, another rarity in Bulgaria. The entrance is very reasonable as well, 5 Leva per person. (Most attractions in Bg have about a 10 Leva fee and are very disappointing.)

Great 1 hour tour to this cave. Would recommend to anybody who want to experience trip to very old natural cave which was adopted for the tourists. HINT: If you want to see bats you need to be at first wave of tourists at the morning. After first tour there will be no bats in the cave until next morning.

Just over two and a half million Euros from the European Union has been spent to build a large and attractive centre around this natural wonder. The cave is beautiful, the guides knowledgeable, the countryside wonderful. However, the basic standards and hygiene one would expect from a European-standard attraction are not there. When I took my two children, the toilets were dirty (urine all over seats and floor), one of the lights didn't work, one of the taps was falling off the basin and there was no soap and only one hand-dryer for 6 basins (male and female toilets), despite the centre being brand new and that they were charging quite a large entry fee for Bulgarian standards. Considering that this is an attraction geared towards children and foreign tourists, this is very poor. My mother in law wanted a drink of water. There is no drinking water, despite it being the hottest part of the year. When we complained one of the centre managers shouted at us and denied this was the case. Appalling and quite a shame, as it spoiled what was otherwise a lovely experience.

The guided tour is in Bulgarian. A large cave just a small part of which is to be visited. The really very large hall in the middle of the limestone mountain is impressive. Sadly you can witness heavy demolition for souvenir purposes: All the dripstones that could possibly be reached from the visitors trail have been stolen. Outside the cave they are currently arranging a colourful childrens leisure park even with an open air theater.
