My wife and I rank this as our favourite place to walk and bike in Maple Meadows. We usually go during the week, but no matter what day you go, it is usually quiet and peaceful. You can't help but be impressed with the spectacular views and the serenity of the reserve. We prefer to bike as it is quite a long hike if you do the full circuit: park in the lot at the end of the road and walk along the dyke separating the lake and the marsh. About a km. down there is a right turn which takes you to the other side of the marsh. Just follow the trail and it will eventually take you back to the road. From there it is about 3 km to the parking lot. During our numerous visits we have sen bear, white swans, snow geese, eagles and osprey diving for fish and the occasional coyote. If you are looking for a zen moment - try this reserve.

Fantastic area to spend the day! Do much to see and do. If you love the water as much as we do you'll have plenty to keep you occupied. Add that to the trails and geocaches stashed around and it's a fun filled day for everyone.

Close to Vancouver, this is another nice place for a nature walk or to take photos. Its beside the Pitt River just as the river flows out of Pitt Lake, and located between mountains. The area was originally marshland, and dyked and partially drained years ago by early settlers. This apart of the area is going back to nature, but the dykes now provide nice walking trails. Like most wetlands, what you see can vary greatly. When was there I saw numerous Canada Geese, Swans, and ducks. A nice writeup with directions is here: http://www.vancouvertrails.com/trails/pitt-wildlife-loop/
