A must visit and see if you are in the area. It is what the Town of Southbridge is all about. A magnificent sight!

A simple work of art on lawn of AO basically big eyeglasses to commemorate the old manufacturing base this plant and town offered 100 years ago up till 1980's. This AO location is a piece of history for the town and area. Town common lawn area shows life in the past preserved today in a small NE. town.

The recently installed sculpture on the Southbridge Common, opposite the Southbridge Hotel and Conference Center, is a wonderful tribute to the history of the community and the labor force that made the American Optical a success. It provides a significant visual clue as to the origins of the town and how Southbridge developed into the world headquarters for the optical industry. The work is by Michael Saari of Woodstock, CT and is a nice reminder of how Southbridge and Woodstock are connected through The Last Green Valley. The Common is a popular spot for photographs and the installation enhances the opportunities available to photographers. Continuing to work to improve the community, the driving force behind this project was retired teachers: Janina and Nancy Swiacki. These community leaders worked tirelessly to build a strong network and brought the project to fruition. "Spectacular AO" is now part of the Southbridge narrative.
