The long walkway/park out along the ocean is lovely and scenic. The Fishermen's Memorial being the diamond in the setting. It's quite famous and large size make it a standout. When you're walking or driving around it's a wonderful place to pull off and stretch your legs. On a drizzly night I had fun taking photos of it in a different light. If you stop and look at the oversized bronze placards with thousands of names for the men lost at sea it's quite stunning. I think when the festival and greasy pole is going there's a lot of action and movement about would be a fun time to see this attraction. With the locals having fun and more to do this would probably be a ton of fun. I'm personally a fan of Gloucester in the off season not being a large crowd person. If you're in the area then it's certainly a great place to stop. Have a look at a very famous statue and appreciate the history and people it represents. Gloucester is absolutely one of my favorite places and there's a lot of great people, food and sights to see. This will be a nice short stop as you enjoy all that Gloucester has to offer.I don't think that many statues warrant going far out of the way to see, but certainly when you're in Gloucester it would be a shame to miss such a historic tribute that's so easy for anyone to visit.

We stopped by late one afternoon. It was very moving. The statue of the wife and children was also moving. It's hard to understand what they must have gone through waiting and wondering. And the dedication of the fisherman and the harsh conditions they endured. Lovely park, not only the statues but the names and memorials in stone as well. Beautiful vista's of the ocean and the light house in the distance. We look forward to going back and spending more time.

The iconic man at the wheel statue is beautiful. He overlooks the gorgeous harbor as well as monuments listing all of the Gloucester residents who have lost their lives at sea. Walk down just a bit and you can see the Gloucester Fisherman's Wives memorial as well.

You can't miss this - it's a must in Gloucester. Just to look and reflect upon it's meaning. Read the inscriptions and names of men lost at sea.Gaze out at Cape Ann - and wonder about all those souls - and the families who waited patiently for their return - never knowing if they will return. It is very inspiring.Clean and well kept walk along with ocean.

Very interesting and information I didn't know about hundreds of years of seaman/fisherman history. Over 5,000 never returned to this port.

If you are in Gloucester, this is a place to stop and pay respect to those who have lost their lives at sea.

...of the lives and tragic deaths of the seaman who gave their lives to the sea trying to forage for their families and the communities they so dearly loved. The broken lives of those left behind and the courage they had to show as they faced death on the sea... really emotional to try to put this into words. A beautiful setting and great surroundings.

This monument is the very heart of Gloucester, Mass. It is recognized around the world. If you are in the area, go see it. Regards to All, OldeBear

Any trip to "Glosta" is incomplete without a visit to the memorial for our lost fishermen. The man at the wheel and all the names of all the fisherman that lost there lives at see. This truly is our heritage and worth take time to view and look through the names. If you have a little more time to walk The Boulavard, on the other side of the drawbridge is the fishermen's wives memorial. Also, worth a stroll to see.And all this, right on beautiful Gloucester harbor !

You cannot help feeling moved by this memorial to the men who gave their lives to the sea. In its 350 year history, Gloucester has lost over 10.000 seamen and this nice memorial honors them. It also happens to be in a lovely seafront park. This whole area of coastline inspired artists such as Fitz Hugh Lane, Winslow Homer, and John Sloan. It has also been used as the location for the films: The Perfecf Storm, State of Main, The Proposal, The Love Letter, and Olive Kitteridge. Gloucester is an important center of the fishing industry and it draws tourists because of the friendly people and outstanding natural beauty (and the lobster). Parking is free on the street by the memorial and the memorial is free. This would be an excellent place to take children for a learning experience.

Was drawn to come and see the monument ever since the first watching of The Perfect Storm and finally made it. Your heart aches for all the names of all the men who died over the years, but it is such an incredible tribute to lives lived and lost. So glad we finally got to see it for ourselves.

It was a very cold, rainy day when I visited the memorial, which could not have been better, as it gave ample time to read all the names of those who lost their lives at sea. This is a moving memorial that merits your time and contemplation. I visited off-season, and cannot comment on how a visit might be during the summer. I can only say that this was time well spent, as it helped me try to understand the history and community of fishing in America's oldest seaport.

I had my picture taken here 65 years ago. Don't know how they developed it so fast back then. If you go to Gloucester, you have to stop here.

The Fishermen's Memorial was impressive. So many men and ships lost at sea dating back to the 1700's. Beautiful walkway all along the water also.

If you ever saw the movie Perfect Storm this is where the men from the fishing boat lived and died and they are noted in the memorial here.
