Unfortunately when I visited on a Saturday afternoon, the doors were locked so I could not see the inside. There is a center stained glass window that I can only assume would look incredible from the inside, along with the remaining Gothic architecture. However I was only able to view the outside and adjoining prayer garden on the east side of the Cathedral.I enjoy church architecture so I would recommend checking it out.

I have probably been to this cathedral a dozen times. I have witnessed the ordination of priests and deacons and have attended several Rites of Election for RCIA candidates. My wife and I have also attended a number of mass celebrations there. Its beauty is acknowledged far and wide. I particularly love the altar and the area immediately behind the altar. The ceiling glows in deep reds and ornate wooden beams. The organist, the cantors, the readers and, of course, Fr. Peter Mangum, are all wonderful. My praise and worship of the Lord is somehow enhanced and elevated when I attend mass and special events at the cathedral. Please make it a very special stop on your next trip to Shreveport.J. What is not to like about the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans. I have been to mass several times and even got married in the chapel eight years ago. I enjoy traveling and seeing all the architecture of Cathedral's in every city I visit. This one is special to me.

If you like traditional and old cathedrals this is the for you. The architecture is very traditional. The altar and stained glass windows have wonderful history.

This is a beautiful cathedral with a fabulous pipe organ. The priests here take their faith seriously and offer many outreach programs. Several mass times, including a Hispanic mass. Check out their website for current events.

Well facilitated and uplifting Liturgies and powerful homilies beckon any visitor with the very best the Roman Church has to offer in the region. The Jesuit feel of the place still persists and it makes one's worship experience all the better. The new organ just provides another added enhancement to the worship experience.St John's also has a great grade school next door with a math and science program that has won more state awards than there is room in the display case.Take the trip to Jordan Street near downtown, it will be time well spent.

When you attend mass there you feel you have truly been to mass. Bishop says a Sunday mass and is very good at presenting the message that everyone can understand. Whether a visitor to Shreveport-Bossier or a resident this is one of about 6 Catholic churches I would recommend attending for the architecture.

St. John Berchmans was born in Diest, Belgian and died of a high fever at 22 years of age. He is the patron saint of altar servers. His short life was built around doing ordinary tasks with extra perfection. This Cathedral follows that lifestyle, everything, even the little things are done with extra perfection from the warm welcome you get to the magnificent stained glass windows. Mass is Monday through Friday at 12.05 and there is plenty of free parking in front of the church. The members of the church have combined old family recipes into a cookbook that is sold at the church for $12.00. Has some Cagun recipes you just have to try and many others, 320 in all. Enjoy!

If you want to attend and participate in a classic-style Roman Catholic Mass, attend the Sunday 11 am Mass. It is beautiful & uplifting. The $1 million Parkey organ is played masterfully--the organ postludes are often works of J.S.Bach, etc. The choir sings beautiful anthems, sometimesRenaissance polyphony, always masterpieces of the choral literature under the direction of an accomplished choir master. All this is in a setting described in previous posts...beautiful,elegant, magnificent. There is also a Latin Mass, usually monthly, in the smaller chapel on the grounds, St.Michael's Chapel. Check the web site and do make the trip to Shreveport to visit & experience the Cathedral of St.John Berchmans.

Built in the mid 1920's to replace an earlier church, the cahtedral is filled with magnificent stained glass windows. Many of these depict the life of St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus. Jesuits founded the church and the high school located on the same campus. Today St. John's is the cathedral of the Diocese of Shreveport. It had a magnificent $1 million dollar organ . The marble, paintings, and the stained glass add to the beauty of the building. Masses are held on Saturdays at 4:00p.m., Sunday at 8:30 a.m. 11:00 a.m., and 5:00 p.m. Daily mass is celebrated at 12:05 p.m. in St. Michael's Chapel which houses an 12th century cross.
