Fun way to spend an afternoon. Tour takes you into the heart of the brewery. Interesting and informative regarding how beer is made. Ezra clearly has a passion for beer and loves to entertain and share his knowledge. They have production beers and small batch beers on tap. Tried a flight of both. Great way to experience a variety of beers and really taste the difference between styles of beers and different ingredients used. While others commented on the small size of the tasting room, I found it rather enjoyable and really created a sense of community as others joined in the conversation. Well worth the time. I'll be back to sample more beers soon and look forward to trying other small batches.
Was taken to this awesome brewery today by my soon to be brother-in-law. They have a large range of beers to try, all very good. The guy that did the tasting was really PASSIONATE about beer and the brewery. He was also very knowledgeable. Great experience overall. Worth a visit if you are into beer.
If you like to visit breweries this is a must to stop by. Good variety of beer. Ezra was helpful about the makeup of the beers on tap. The tap room is a bit small and hopefully will expand into a vacant place in the mill in the future. Pints, growlers and cans.
This is one of my favorite places for a beer; I often wish this place was larger and they had a full brew pub like some of the other craft breweries in Maine. Come down for a taste, a full pint and a tour, or just pick up some six packs of one of Maine's best crafted beers!
We did a tour last week and it was fantastic. Ezra, the tour guide and barkeep did a great job. The tour was informative and entertaining. It is clear that the folks working there love what they do. We also had a chance to try a flight of beers, helping us understand the nuances of each. The brewery is in the old Bates Mill - worth visiting just to see the mill. I highly recommend a visit, whether you are a beer geek or just an occasional beer drinker. One note - the brewery is actually on Lincoln Street, not Mill Street as listed above.
We sampled a flight of their commercial beers before doing a brewery tour today. Prices are very reasonable--$3 for a flight of their 4 commercially available beers. The guy doing the tastings and leading the tours was a lot of fun and very knowledgeable. Even if you've done other brewery tours, this one will probably be a little different since there is the canning aspect to what they do, whereas most beers are sold in bottles. It's great to see a local business take off and do so well--this area certainly needs it! We'll definitely put this on our list of things to do when out of town guests come to visit.
Visitied Baxter Brewing Co at the Bates Mill in Lewiston in early January 2014 with my eldest daughter who was home from college for the holidays. Ezra gave us a great tour on a day when th icy roads kept most folks home, apparently. We sampled the beer selection at the end and enjoyed each type, helped along by Ezra's explanations of the recipes involved. Great fun to visit - don't miss it if you get to Central Maine. I'm a dedicated Baxter customer for life now (one can a day, of course).
This tap room is a must see to anyone over 21 coming to Lewiston. The small brewery experience with the craftsmanship is a lot to take in. I'd go again!
After trying some Stowaway IPA my wife and I decided we needed to stop by the brewery on our way home from Gouldsboro. It is in a super convenient location right off the interstate and in a really interesting old grain mill. We arrived early on a Sunday and had the entire place to ourselves. We chatted with Ezra who helped us along in our tastings and gave us a lot of information about the brewery. We then got an extended tour of the facilities and just had a great time. Ezra was extremely knowledgable about the brewery and the history of the building. Getting a tour with Ezra is worth the trip alone but fortunately they also have delicious beers to have as well. I love the fact that everyone who works at the brewery gets the opportunity to design a recipe. They have 4 taps that always have rotating small batches that seem to be interesting and unique. We also bought one of the coolest pint glasses that I have ever seen in the shape of a beer can. Thanks Baxter for a great experience and some great beer.
On my way up to Northern Maine, the wife and I decided to make a quick pitstop to get some beer from Baxter and also to check out the brewery. Having never been there, we weren't too sure as to what to expect but upon arriving in Lewiston, finding the place was pretty easy.It is located in a giant industrial complex, which formerly was used as a mill I believe and there's parking to be found in their private lot (free) or public lot (pay). We parked in the former of the two and walked over. While the taproom is underwhelming in size, they do have six beers on tap that you can try. Their flagship Stowaway IPA is definitely available but they also have a few exclusives that they're piloting as well.We were able to sample their Hops Del Fuego, a smoked IPA and their Cthulu Rising which is brewed with oyster shells and is a black IPA with some pretty good depth of flavor. We picked up three six-packs from there and some glassware. Speaking of which, I'm a huge fan of their glassware. Their beer glasses look exactly like cans which is pretty original and fun and their logo on there is great. Quality stuff. Also available are shirts and various other things but we settled for a fresh pretzel and their mustard which was both affordable and great. Lastly, I was able to put a pin of my hometown on their map.The guy behind the counter was both friendly and knowledgeable and the beer was great. So whether you want to sample or buy beer, or get some glassware or t-shirts, I highly recommend you check this spot out.
