I have visited many museums in my time and this is one of my favorites. It is small, consisting of the building constructed around 1815 and several additions. Exhibits are changed periodically and the museum is bright, clean, and well-lit, which is important to me.I especially enjoyed seeing the artifacts related to Joseph Ellicott and Ely Parker, along with those of other locals of historic note. The director, Jeffrey Donahue, and his assistant, Jeffrey Fischer, were extremely helpful explaining the exhibits, discussing museum matters (I volunteer at a history museum), and informing me about upcoming events (such as the Batavia Antique Show and Sale at Batavia Downs on March 20 & 21).There is ample parking and a small gift shop. We didn't check out the restrooms as they were having a water problem.

Beautiful old building, well kept. Excellent staff, wonderful gift shop. Excellent source of history for Western NY.

This was the American Western in 1800 and they can show and tell you all about it. Even though it was a busy day for them as school is not in session and they had a multiple Christmas Tree display the Manager spent considerable time helping us find what we sought and checked on us several times.

It set out to be a day trip with our two grandsons - 8 and 10. There was a "class" going on in the main part of the museum so we weren't permitted in the room. That left very little to see in the other rooms and the upstairs was closed. The kids as well as G'pa and I were very disappointed.

What I don't like? That this museum is a well kept Western New York secret. What I like? This museum gives you a snapshot of the history of Western New York, Genesee County and Batavia. The display themes change often...right now it is Christmas Trees. Walk outside and visit the Peace Garden. Take a photo of the butterfly bench. A visit you won't regret.

This is a definite must stop in the City of Batavia. It has so many interesting antiques from this area. They have a staff that are mainly volunteers and you can tell they are passionate about what they are talking about! A spot you should take the family to to learn more about Batavia!

The early days of Batavia and NY are recounted here. For a small town museum, this is top of the line. The staff is always friendly and helpful and they have different exibits on a regular basis. Great for locals and out of towners who want to know how western NY was born and grew into what it is today.
