This museum is an amazing compilation of Catholic statuary assembled in a beautifully restored church. The effect is stunning! I know of no where else where you can be face to face with such a collection. They not only display pieces that have been saved when a church is closed but, repair and restore statuary from all over. If you're fortunate, you might be there when they are working on a piece. It is fascinating to see the level of detail and care they take to bring back and preserve the treasures of the churches the diocese has closed.

After just completing two Art History courses at Penn State I thought I would take a trip to the Cleveland Art Museum. There was a nice representative of art through the ages. My teenage son and husband really enjoyed the antique guns, swords and medieval weapons. Walking a pretty good clip still took a few hours. Depending on your interest level, this could be a few hours to a half day adventure. Admission was free, we didn't pay for any special exhibits. Donations were gladly accepting, there is a cost to park.

Today I went to The Museum of Divine Statues in Lakewood, Ohio. What a beautiful way to spend a morning! Sadly, the Cleveland diocese closed many catholic churches in the past few years but this museum has managed to save quite a few precious statues and religious artifacts from some of these churches. So many Cleveland treasures and so many restored beautifully! Bravo!Sundays you can visit the museum from 1-4 but guided tours are only given to groups of 30 or more during the weekday mornings.

After spending an hour within the walls of this amazing church/museum I am inspired. The owner and family have worked endlessly to preserve Cleveland's Catholic Church history. Many churches in the area have been closed. The owner had the foresight to purchase this church building and restore it to a museum. He also purchased many statues and artifacts from various closed churches in the area. For further details visit their website below.Weekday group tours are available and it is open to the public on Sundays. The fee helps to support the ongoing restoration of history we all can appreciate.

Finding The Museum of Divine Status an unexpected gem. Inside the renovated church the museum curator has gathered religious relics from all over the world and restored them to their original glory. Each statue is presented with it's history so you can understand what you are looking at. I am not catholic but love the arts and history and found a stop here well worth my time.
