Unfortunately, tours are only done two days a week and only four are allowed at one time. However, this was a wonderful, up close tour of the prominent Harrington family's home. The Harrington's fingerprints are everywhere in the Amarillo area, as well as New York.

There's nothing "can't miss" about this place, but if you live in the Texas Panhandle, your life has been affected by the lives of Don and Sybil Harrington, and it's interesting to see how they lived. And the holiday decorations add a nice touch too.

Touring the Harrington House is an incredible treat. Tours are free, but you have to call ahead to schedule your tour (they are only available on Tuesdays and Thursdays at specific times) for up to four people, and the minimum age is 14. You have to be careful not to touch anything to help with preservation, but it is like getting up close to the most intimate settings in a museum. It really is a treat. The tour guides are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The tour was less than an hour, but I found myself wishing it would last longer. A beautiful, well-preserved bit of history. What a treat that the tours are small and that they are free. I loved spending time at this historic home!

Tours aren't given very often and are limited in number. Well worth finding the time to visit. We were glad we visited here first then recognized the Harrington name the Plains museum. Fantastic that the house is exactly how they lived and the people they knew. Free too

First it is only open Tuesday and Thursday by appointment, tours are conducted on the half hour, between 10 and 12:30, So to not be disappointed, call in advance to reserve your tour. The tour guides are all volunteers and do a wonderful job of showing and explaining the home. They will not talk about the family so don't ask. The home is beautifully decorated and preserved for that time in history. The Harrington's were a wealthy family and their home/life reflect it. Most of the paintings on display are reproductions as the Harrington's donated the originals for display in Museums. It is most definitely worth the time to plan for and visit. Please Note Suggest you arrive five minutes prior to your scheduled tour.Wear low, broad-heeled shoes & check packages, purses, coats, cameras in available lockers.Smoking and consumption of food and beverages are prohibited on the premises. The is not handicapped accessible. Canes, walkers, or crutches may not be usedYou may take photos, no flashI do not feel sorry for people who just show up and expect to get in. When you want to visit historical places it doesn't hurt you to plan ahead as we did. Check on the opening times and what are the requirements. Even buy your tickets in advance to by pass lines. In fact we have already bought our tickets to tour Buckingham Palace and the Churchill Museum later in the fall. We won't even have to wait in line.

The free 50-minute tour, offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, has to be pre-arranged by phone. The tour guide offered many details about the home and its owners. The home is fully furnished with many original items.

Took a tour with 3 friends @ Christmas. The house is beautifully restored and was decorated for Christmas. Can tour by reservation only and they have a maximum on number of people in a group. Would go back in a heartbeat.

I just want to take the time to thank the wonderful staff at The Harrington Home. I toured this home yesterday and the staff was awesome! They are so knowledgeable about the history of this beautiful home and the people who made it possible. I learned so much and was amazed at how well the home has been preserved. I would recommend this tour to anyone who is coming into or through Amarillo TX. It is a gem!!

After YEARS of wondering what exactly is inside, I finally scheduled a tour of the Harrington Mansion, which I went on yesterday. The house is beautifully preserved and the displays are stunning and include art and collectives from all over the world. The tour guides are passionate, friendly and impressively knowledgeable. However, be aware, this is museum is private, not public. Although admission is FREE, tours must be scheduled in advance. Tours for groups of up to 4-5 people , 14 and older are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays every half hour between 10am-12:30pm. Just FYI...they change the displays seasonally, and apparently Christmas is the highlight. I am already planning to reschedule for the holiday season, because the guide said it books early.

The Harrington House is a private museum in the former home of Don and Sybil Harrington. The house exhibits the success achieved by this family, not just from the oil and gas industry, but their deep involvement with the ars and other extremely worthy causes. The mentors have a remarkable knowledge about almost every aspect of the home, its furninshings, history and place in our world.Tour availabilities are limited to four people at a time, 14 and older. Advance registation for the tours, only available every half hour between 10am-12:30pm Tuesdays and Thursdays, April-December.Be advised, there are stairs in the three story tour, no elevator.Admission is free. This was one of the most informative home tours I have ever been on. The staff was absolutely amazing and so knowledgeable about all of the items in the home. It was such a fun way to experience such an amazing home.

The main reason I wanted to come to Amarillo was to see this house. I love touring old houses and learning about their history. From the outside its amazing but it's only opened Tuesday & Thursday by apt so I wasn't able to go inside. We drove by to see it anyway and there wasn't even a sign out front tell you about the house, I guess they don't need the revenue.

Absolutely stunning house. The story of the house makes it even more interesting. A must see in Amarillo.
