I have been stopping here for years on my way to and from my childhood home in the Catskill Mountains of New York. This place is fantastic, they roast their own peanuts and offer then in various degrees of color which is light, medium and dark.Lots of candy too. Old style store in a small built up area that if you sneeze or blink you are going to miss, which will be your loss.If you are in the area give it a try, I am sure you will not be disappointed!

Whenever I go to Cabela’s in Hamburg, PA, I make it a point to drive 2 miles north to visit this one-of-a-kind candy shop. The store itself has been there for ages and has the creaky wooden floors and glass display cabinets that go “way back!” They do, indeed, roast their own peanuts (light, medium, and dark). Most shelf space is, however, dedicated to candy. If you were a kid in the 60’s and beyond, chances are they’ll have your favorite confection … you might even come across a favorite that you haven’t seen for sale for decades (Sen-Sen “Mints,” for example). My personal favorites are the Australian “kookaburra” black licorice and a Dutch honey/black licorice mix. They also carry a limited amount of store-made items in the right-hand-side cabinet just inside the entry door: I forget what they’re called (turtles?) but they are a small (3-inch diameter), multilayer combination of peanuts, caramel, and chocolate … YUM!

Don't let the name fool you: the Port Clinton Peanut Shoppe has a lot more than peanuts for sale. It has all kinds of candy including chocolate covered nuts, assorted malted balls, and the bubble gum packed in "cigarette" boxes that you probably haven't seen in decades. It's a bright and fun place that's worth stopping by during a visit to nearby attractions such as Hawk Mountain or Yuengling Brewery.
