jenkins arboretum and garden

Jenkins has many hillside walking paths through lovely gardens and as many have mentioned...admission is FREE! Even in the wintertime it's a great place to take a stroll. Years ago they had an exhibit of fascinating sculptures scattered throughout and I was able to make arrangements for a dear friend with mobility issues to join me on a tour in a small motorized vehicle. Our driver/guide was so kind and the tour very informative...have fond memories of that special day! This winter I rejoined the arboretum because I want to support this local gem once again and also take advantage of the member discounts. I recently attended the program on the life and landscape designs of Frederick Law Olmsted by Kirk Brown (in character and costume!) and enjoyed the lecture/slide presentation immensely. Sorry to have missed the previous program , "Great British Gardens", by Louise Clarke of Morris Arboretum. I know my membership will encourage me to participate in the educational events as well as the walks I have always appreciated...marking my calendar now!

This arboretum is located on the side of a hill. The walkways are paved so you can easily navigate through the woodland areas. Plants are labelled for the horticulturists. There are plenty of benches to sit and contemplate the surroundings which are beautiful [and beautifully maintained]. There is also a gift shop. There are many classes and workshops for the horticulturally and photographically oriented. I recommend that you become a member [not required] to get the full benefit of this wonderful nieghborhood organization.

This is one of my favorite placed to walk during the spring & during September (when fall blooming azaleas are in full bloom). This arboretum has free admission, has unique scenery, and is well maintained. Not to mention, it has a beautiful pond filled with swans & ducks. It also has a cool gift shop that sells anything from greeting cards to pictures, statues and books, to plants. I highly recommend checking this place out during the times of the year I've mentioned above if you're looking for a cool place that's free of charge.

Pick a beautiful sunny day to explore the plantings in this arboretum. In the spring time the azaleas and rhodadendrum are in full bloom, and numerous flowers are bursting forth. It is quite hilly, so bring a good pair of walking shoes when you visit.

Jenkins Arboretum is well maintained, extremely scenic, educational, oh yeah and it's free! This place makes waking it's 1 mile path so easy. A friend and I were looking for something to do that didn't cost money and I stumbled upon this place online and I'm so glad I found this place! We were there twice last month and plan on going there again next spring!

After 4 years of living in this area, we were looking for something to do that was free and outdoors. Jenkins Arboretum was a nice surprise! Lots of hills, but really nice summer stroll...and a place I'll be coming back to in the fall!

Which season do you like? All are beautiful at Jenkins. Our favorite is spring especially around Mother's day as this is the time the many azaleas are blooming and rhodadentrons. Native wild flowers are all around you with tags to give you names of varieties you may not know. Many places along the path to sit and relax and enjoy watching the birds or maybe the turtles in the pond.

Jenkins is a lovely place to visit all year - for the stunning scenery during bloom seasons but also a great place to walk off-season. Lots of native plants to see and buy, and also good classes.

The arboretum is small but it is a hidden gem. The main path (about a mile in length) takes you through the gardens. Even on a hot (over 95) it was an easy relaxing walk because there are some very tall trees which give you some shade if you need as well as it seemed a small but comforting natural breeze. Trees and plants are well marked as to what they are and they have a map to help guide you. If you have any questions feel free to ask the receptionist in the pavilion.She answered questions and even stepped into the gardens to identify a plant that had no label. You will find it both relaxing and educational and if you see a planting you would like to have in your yard, they will gladly give you the name and details about its' habits. They may even have one for sale as they offer some plants for sale and they are mostly locally grown. Go ahead and enjoy the gardens and one of the FREE attractions still available. I would encourage thinking about giving a donation so it can remain as beautiful and clean as it currently is.

While looking for directions to another destination, I spotted Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens on the map and, curious guy that I am, did an internet search. So glad that I did that! This is a beautiful, peaceful place for a quite stroll to just enjoy the plants and flowers, take an opportunity to sit on one of the many benches, as I did, take a lot of pictures. It's also a good place for some not-too-strenuous exercise. The winding paved paths will take you down a pretty good distance and then you get to work your way back to the entrance at the top of the gardens. There's a small lake with seating all around to enjoy the shade and the view. Take some water, perhaps a book and, definitely, a camera. You'll have an enjoyable, relaxing couple of hours in a lovely place.

This wonderful arboretum sits in the midst of a housing community, but once inside you would never know it. There are great walkways and lush greenery all around and a great pond. I think I need to go again to really appreciate all that it has to offer. I don't know if I went at the wrong time or not, because although very beautiful in all its lushness, there weren't enough blossoms for me.

Bring a camera! This place is awesome to take photos!!You'll love the nature walk around the property, it's a relatively short easy hike for all ages. As you stroll around you'll discover the wind/sound art that adorns the property. Very, very cool!

This place is like your 'ideal' back yard, green, home, friendly, warm and most importantly "in tune with nature". Bring your water bottle, book/friend and stroll through the nice, small but lovely garden. There are chairs all along the route and you may take a book break any scenery you like.

A great outdoor setting for the nature lovers! Parts of it are a little bit of a hike so bring your walking shoes. Good combination of sun and shade.
