I had lived near Horne Creek for many years growing up and when I finally visited it as an adult it brought back so many memories of visiting my grandparents farm. There needs to be more places to visit like this. The staff is always very nice and knowledgeable. Strolling over the grounds and in the house were so peaceful. I have been back many times and always look forward to the activities mid October especially.

Interesting working historical farm with knowledgeable and likable docents with much information to share.

We were returning home from a trip to the mountains and saw the signs for this and decided to check it out. When we got there they were setting up for a fall festival (so there were tables and chairs set up all over the place) but they told us we could walk around if we wanted to and the house was open if we wanted to walk through it. We were told usually there were people acting out what 1900 farm life was like and you could even take part but because of preparing for the festival none of that was going on. Of course I headed straight from the donkey I saw. Then we walked through the house. We plan on going back when they are in full operation.

An amazing place to take a trip back in time, see how our fore fathers used to live, work, and be part of what makes North Carolina the "real" south. The kids (and adults) will love the education, the sites, the house and barns, the cemetary, and the animals. The staff is great, make sure to ask about the "stories" of children growing up on the farm and how they kept themsleves entertained.

My husband and I were recently vacationing in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and read about Horne Creek Farm in a brochure. We decided to go and were amazed at what a wonderful place to visit it was. The staff was so nice and informative, we felt like we were visiting with friends. The house has been beautifully restored and there are no ropes keeping you from touching anything and you can take all the photos you like. The animals are tame and very entertaining, especially the donkey. You can visit the family cemetery, walk through the orchard, and observe farm chores being done. We have been to several restored farm homesteads but this one had some unusual features like the covered walkway leading to the wash house. It is a fun and educational place to visit for all ages, and we look forward to visiting again soon.

This property, Horne Creek Living Historical Farm, is so alive, it's ready to live in, 1900 style. From animals, to the grounds, to the house and detail of the furnishings themselves, such great care is taken to preserve the history and the culture of a working farm. Including the sweet smell of tobacco leaf hanging in the tobacco barn. This farm site made me realize how many different talents a farm family needed to provide for itself.
