We were looking for a Jeep Trail to take the dogs for a ride. Deer Park Road was perfect for us. The drive up was beautiful. There are a couple of areas you can stop and take walks. Beau sure and go to the top for a overlook view.

The road going up to Blue Mtn. was narrow and windy plus you have to watch out for the locals coming down but once you get to the top (going 10-15 mph for 9 miles), you get some of the best views! Deer Park CG has a herd of 16ish deer who will stop at nothing to eat you sweat soaked shirts but it is as if you went back in time. The CG has a bathroom, nice camp sites (try the 400-500 level loop) and gorgeous views of Grey Wolf, Baldy and most of the east/south side of the Olympics. Walk the Deer Ridge trail to the Three Forks trail (TFT), about a quarter of a mile, and you get great views of the prairie and West facing ridges. Take TFT down about a half a mile and you will be on a ridge with lots of wildflowers and wonderful views. You could take the TFT the 3400 ft. vertical and 4.2 miles down to Grand Creek and camp at Three Forks Camp (very well maintained!). You can stay the night at TFC and head back up in the morning or hike the Grey Wolf trail all the way to the pass (@20 miles). The possibilities are endless!

We went to the end of the road and saw a few deer... that was nice, but the view was outstanding. It is easy to spend an hour or 2 just soaking it all in. Great hiking trails / loops at the top.

When we found out Hurricane Ridge would be closed because of a bike event, heading up Deer Park Road was a great alternative. The ride to the top is 18 miles from US 101 in Port Angeles, with the last 9 being gravel and uphill to the 6000 ft Blue Mt. The road was in good shape and driving to the top was smooth. At the top there's a short half-mile loop trail that has magnificent scenery in all directions. There are also longer hikes from Deer Park Road. We saw a decent amount of wildflowers. Some of the bees were pesky, but they didn't really bother us. Three hours should be plenty of time to drive up, enjoy the scenery from the top, and drive back to US 101.
