Quanah Parker was a great leader among the Comanche people. His story is the stuff that legends are made of. On Fort Sill, he is buried alongside his mother, Cynthia Ann Parker, and his sister, Prairie Flower. It is a beautiful monument among the thousands buried in this sacred place. The inscription reads "Here Until Day Break And Shadows Fall And Darkness Disappears Is Quanah Parker Chief Of The Comanches Born - 1852 Died Feb 23, 1911.This Monument Erected Under Act Of Congress. Approved June 23, 1920"There are also other notable Native leaders buried on the knoll, many of whom were signers of the Medicine Lodge Treat of 1867. Chief Santana of the Kiowas is one of them. Once again, this is not something I would plan a trip around, but if you are in the area and have an appreciation for history, especially as it relates to Native people, this is a moving place to visit. In order to see the grave, you will enter Fort Sill, so you need to be prepared to provide ID.
