This is part of the state capitol; should not be a separate site. Someone from Tripadvisor should amend this listing. Thanks.

Take a tour through Vt's State House and step back in time. Original gaslights (now connected to electricity), furniture, stained glass....wonderful tiles on the floor that have fossils embedded from Isle La Motte's Chazy Fossil Reef (480 million years ago--plate tectonics pushed it over from Zimbabwe, Africa, to what was then a shallow tropical sea and today a landlocked Vt--and the delight in seeing where Vt's legislation is hashed out and voted on. Vt's well-known frugality, and pride in their history, is evident throughout--come and see for yourself. You can take a guided tour (30 mins), use a wand for an audio tour and/or use your smartphone and go through at your own pace, or pick up a site guide if you're in a hurry and just want to see the House and Senate chambers, with their decorative Corinthian columns. Ethan Allen statute is located outside on the portico of the state house.

The statue is ok. However, the Statehouse where he stands is well worth a visit. This Statehouse is very open to the public. There are guided tours. Well worth the visit if you like historical buildings. Both chambers are open, and if the legislature is not in session, you can sit in the seats and get a real feel for the the atmosphere. If it is in session, you can watch from the gallery.

Yup, it's an overly-dramatic, over-sized statue of that famed Revolutionary War hero. It's next to the front doors of the Capitol building, convenient.

It is a statue. While it is a nice statue, it is still a statue. I wouldn't go out of my way, but if you are there you should look at it.
