My wife and I were looking for something to take up a little time and found this online. Everything is very well maintained and it was fun to see and take photos of the landscape and wide life. The boardwalk is over open water with little shade so be prepared to be in the direct sunlight for most of the walk. Definitely a nice way to spend a couple hours!

Our host in Palm Beach took us to the Grassy Waters Nature Preserve. My wife, a photographer, was in a different world all her own. With no camera, I just stood and admired the different kinds of birds and turtles in this preserve. Thanks to the Water Utility Department of Palm Beach County for creating and maintaining this quiet human-free zone. It's an example of ecological consciousness and action at its best.

It's a town park, everyone seems to agree on the main feature. It's the mile long Boardwalk; suspended above the water. You can rent canoe's, for a very relaxing time on the lake. On the weekend the park rangers offer various programs.

My friend & I were looking for interesting walks to do during our week in Florida and were happy to find these two trails. The Hog Hammock trail is listed as 2.8 miles, but with the option of the Promontory trail, our total was about 4.5 miles. We enjoyed the mixture of trail surfaces, with crushed concrete, boardwalks, some sand and natural areas and found the walk to be scenic and interesting. On the straight Promontory trail, we thought it might be boring, but we were treated to the sighting of a beaver who came up on the trail to see us, and there were lots of clearings where we could see the wetlands and assorted birds. If you want to stay on the shorter route, you will see similar scenery. It's all a matter of preference. The Apoxee Trail is at the other end of Grassy Waters and when we put it into our navigation, it actually sent us across the street from our destination, so be aware of that. This was our favorite of all the trails we walked on our visit to Florida, though we have one word of caution. Due to the large variety of palms and plants, if a person has any allergies, consider having Benadryl on hand. My friend had an allergic reaction while walking and was able to make it through the 4 miles trail, but it was worrisome near the end. That aside, the trail is very scenic and consists of a variety of surfaces...crushed shell, natural ground, boardwalks, and a dirt road for about 1/3 of the trail (part of the Awohee trail.) The road is great for walking side by side, or for those on bikes, and is still enjoyable because of the bird activity on the water that runs along the entire road. The more natural part of the trail is full of a variety of plant life and about half of the walk is in shade, so you have the comfort of going in and out of tree canopies. There were 3 or 4 very muddy areas, but we were able to walk along the edges and one area had a balance-beam-like tree to keep us above the muck. The wet areas were also great for seeing animal prints...maybe raccoons? Both hikess are flat and have safe surfaces...easy to walk. We saw cyclists, and though there were a few tight areas, overall we're sure the paths were great for biking. We took a lot of pictures and recommend allowing an hour or two for each walk.

we actually had our canoe with us to go for a canoe ride at grassy waters but they don't allow canoes there anymore, unless you rent one from the concessionaire. they were closed on sunday morning. however, we did walk the mile long boardwalk. it was great. much of the boardwalk is shaded and some that is not has manufactured cover. areas that are covered have comfortable rocking chairs to view wildlife, read, take a nap ......we'll be back.

Grassy Waters is a town park that has preserved pristine wetlands in an area fast being usurped by development. It is very peaceful during the week, whiich is when we visited. On weekends there are ranger programs and canoe toirs of the preserve. The main feature is the boardwalk that takes you above the wetlands. There are several tiki-roofed platforms with rockers or benches so you can enjoy the scenery at leisure. Clean restrooms and an interpretive center.

Visited two of the trails today, a hammock and Boardwalk trail. Trail signs and naps can be improved. Intersections on Hammock trail not well marked. Boardwalk was lovely and disliked seeing it end so quickly. Take a camera and enjoy.

A fabulous nature preserve! The boardwalk is amazing and everything is picturesque. Make sure to bring your camera along with you!

Love walking the preserve. Spoonbills, wood storks, gators, deer, you never know what you'll see. Also good biking though the trails are not paved and it can be strenuous.

A great quiet place to get away from it all and be one with nature. Nice areas with huge rocking chairs to tuck away and relax.

My wife and I enjoy the walk on the boardwalk and if we want to be more adventurous, we hike the trails on the north side of the highway where there is also a nice fishing lake.

This is a nice little gem hidden in plain sight. I passed the entrance everyday for months before I finally stopped to explore it. It's a nice nature preserve hidden just west of the Beeline on Northlake Blvd. It is actually part of the West Palm Beach water catchment. I'm glad it's here, but I do think they need better advertising. I actually stopped there once to see a display of Highwaymen artwork, which was excellent. Unfortunately it was very poorly advertised. There was a single small wireframe sign near the entrance in the median advertising it, the kind you use to advertise a room for rent or your startup business services. I like the fact that you can rent kayaks for guided tours, but I really wish I could take my own kayak out for a paddle and photo shoot. A webcam would also be a great addition. I am an artist, and I have gone there several times to take reference photos of wildlife. I have many excellent pictures for the effort. If you are looking for something simple and a quiet place to see natural Florida, take the time to find this little gem and explore it.

This is a small nice nature preserve about 75 minutes from Miami and 135 minutes from Orlando. We stopped there on the way from Miami to Orlando for about 90 minutes walk. Most of the route is a boardwalk with some nice stops. We didn't see many wildlife - mostly lizards and dragonflies - but it was nice. And we did see one small alligator :-)The person we met at the visitor center was extremely nice and helpful!

I have passed Grassy Waters at least twice a day for the last 8 years. It is in my backyard. Decided to stop with my grandson for a look around, He is 9. Paradise, pure untouched nature. Great pathways located in different areas. Along the paths are signs explaining the wildlife. Florida in all it's beauty before people came. Many places to sit along the way. There is a calendar of events including, canoeing, hiking and crafts. However there is no entrance fee. I found a lively quiet (except the sound of nature) location under cover with ceiling fans that I plan to use often. I will be taking a book and enjoy my surroundings. I also plan to bring my grandson back to the different options offered. I also will be bringing any visitors. It may have taken a long time to discover this place but better late then never. Remember you are out in the open, wear long pants and have bug spray. Be prepared not only to see the sealife and birds but the alligators that live there.
