This is a must-see museum and art gallery/museum in the Valley of the Sun encompassing Greater Phoenix and northern Arizona. We always bring visiting friends and relatives and have gone to see what was new and interesting on our own many times. There's always something new to take in. The next art exhibition...CowgirlUP (hundreds of female artists from across the country) starting around the 21st of March will be a not-to-miss visit. Do yourself and your friends a favor...go check out the museum. The audio system (free) makes the displays come to life and make learning about the history of the area, tons of fun!

I definitely recommend this as part of the Wickenburg experience. It is in two separate but close buildings, both of which offer artifacts, art, and insights into the history of this little town. With admission you get a ticket which gets you into the other building, and also lets you take a break for lunch or whatever and get back in again the same day. Also included is a personal audio tour, a relatively recent addition that I think is the best advancement in museum viewing in years. It consists of ear phones, a small portable-radio size device which you can wear either clipped to your belt or clothing, or worn around your neck. Volume adjustable, It self activates near any exhibit, and can give both basic and optional extended information about it. No photos allowed on the upper level but permitted in the lower gallery without flash. I particularly like exhibits that show how people lived and worked in older days, and this is most satisfying in this regard. There is a lot to see and appreciate here, and I admire the work and dedication that went into creating it.

Last visited here 20 years ago, and we were in for a big surprise. The museum is about evenly split between historical displays (Wells Fargo, pioneer home, mining) and art. The headphones worked great (free). The art exhibition was unexpected and very very good. Comparable to the Western Wildlife Museum near Jacksone, WY. A nice variety of art - some classic Charles Russell along with a display of photographic portraits of modern rodeo participants, Western landscapes and more. Great place to take visitors and only an hour from Phoenix.

This museum in the center of Wickenburg, an hour away from Carefree, is a good place to visit. It recounts the history of the western towns and describes the people's daily lives. It is also packed with artifacts and exceptionnal bronze carvings done by local artists of cowboys in action.

The displays here are definitely worth seeing, showing a good history of Wickenburg and the area. It has both current art exhibits and the historical museum.

Wonderful exhibits and well presented. Really enjoyed it! Very welcoming staff. There are headphones with audio presentations for all the exhibits.

Very nice museum and right across the street next to the gas station go see "The Jail Tree". If you have a few hours take a walk around the whole town of Wickenburg there is a lot of stuff to see.

This is an amazing museum and wouldn't be out of place in a much bigger centre. They have a collection of original paintings and bronzes by western artists, some old and some new, and some you've most likely heard of, such as Remington. There's also a small exhibit on the town's history. If you've got kids along, they'll likely enjoy the replicas of historic buildings in the basement, some of which have hands-on activities. While we were there, there was a large Lionel train display down there as well, though that might have been because it was over the Christmas holidays. It had several Lionel buildings to go with it, including an aquarium with fish swimming in the window, and a hobo camp with a glowing fire.

This museum presents a fantastic depiction of history with fine arts and an old county village. I loved it.Dr. Deb

This was a pleasant surprise in that we had no idea a small city/town like Wickenburg would have anything of this caliber. Great original bronzes by Russell and Remington, paintings by so many well-known western artists, past and present. Also a very well-done local history exhibit and much, much more. This is the type of facility you'd expect to find in Phoenix, but thank goodness it's located in a true Western town - where it belongs!

Enjoy this small town museum for its historical displays and top notch artwork. Wickenberg is the neatest little town around with great support from local area people. A lot of famous people have donated artwork, Remington bronzes and other objects to this great museum.

I have collected southwest sculptures and paintings for years and toured galleries in Santa Fe, NM, Park City, UT, and Scottsdale,AZ. On a casual trip to Wickenburg (about 90 minutes from Old Town Scottsdale) I entered this museum/gallery not expecting to see much.Boy, was I wrong! Wonderful bronze and clay pieces, oils, graphite sketches, and photographs of all sorts of western subjects stunned me. Most were donated by patrons of the arts and local families whose roots go back to the town's founding. I spent more than 2 hours in this small museum admiring them. The pieces are all original and not editions. So, if you're hankering for some cowboy or cowgirl atmosphere you'll find it in town. Just don't miss the museum/gallery. I may even donate a piece of my own for others to appreciate. And, take your camera!

My sister and I spent a very enjoyable afternoon here. We used the complimentary audio headsets which enhanced the tour because we were then given additional information to explain what we were viewing. I came away with increased admiration of our earlier western heritage and was pleased to see that it continues on. Everything was beautiful. .Please don't miss this gem!

you'll love this museum in the little town of Wickenburg, AZ. Wonderfully laid out, you'll learn about the progression in western art, from the earliest artists in the 1800s to the contemporary work of today. You'll also get up close and personal with bronzes; most of them stunning masterpieces of ideas, emotions, and detail in both man and animal. Downstairs they chronicle the early days of Wickenburg - you know, when you could get coffee for 18 cents a pound, and a 2 pound package of salt for 8 cents. The life-size dioramas include a general store, watchmaker shop, gun store, and more. Plan on a good two to three hours here; more if you take your time to see it all. The folks who work here are about the friendliest, most helpful folks you'll ever meet. If you are in town, or close by, come here and see what the western life was like, and in many ways is still lived today. You can even get a guided tour, or opt for the voice-led recorded tour.
