Phinizy Swamp Nature Park is a cool place to visit for a few hours to see the scenery of a swamp. A long wooden bridge/walkway goes over the swamp, putting one right in the middle of the action. Connected to this walkway is a gazebo, giving the chance to sit and chill while admiring the view. Swamp-living birds fly around, fish and turtles are in the water, and an alligator can sometimes be spotted. It is free to walk around the swamp. Parking is not far from the start of the walkway. It's not an incredibly huge place though. For Augusta, where I live, it's one of the most unique experiences we have to offer.

A very good place to take a leisurely hike with children. Flat terrain, excellent facilities and an overall great nature experience,, no video games or screens here just the great outdoors,,

this place is unbelievable! The beauty of nature and the tranquility of this place is fantastic! You can bike through here for hours and still not see it all!

We have lived in this area all of our lives and decided today to go to the swamp for the first time. It was a lot of fun and great way to walk off all of the Christmas meals we have eaten. The park has a lot of different trails that you can explore. We saw a lot of birds. Great way to explore nature. We walked 5 miles today and still did not see it all. We enjoyed our trip and will go back.

During the summer this was gorgeous. The staff was friendly in the visitor center, and the trails were well maintained and interesting. We saw a lot of wildlife (alligator, birds, turtles, etc.) Bring bug spray since there is a lot of tall grass.

Don't expect to go here and see an immense amount of wildlife, but it is absolutely beautiful to take a nature walk on. The views and scenes within the trails are truly breathtaking. Very nice place to soak up some nature and breathe in all that fresh air!

I have been to other swamps and this one is disappointing. Not that much wildlife. Perhaps the time was not right. Parking is rather far from the trails. No maps or signs along the trails and I suggest studying the satellite image and print it for reference if you intend to walk along the extended trails.

imagine a nature show with the highest definition possible and that is a walk in this park. You will see flying, crawling, slithering and swimming creatures of all kinds. Take a walk on the wild side just watch your step....you really don't want to fall into the swamp!

This is a beautiful place, free, easy to get to, easy to visit, with a boardwalk/trail that takes you through lovely country with gorgeous green vegetation, and nice restrooms. Best in the spring or fall or even winter, and even lovely in the summer if you avoid the hottest part of the day. And the gate is opened at dawn, so you can get an early start if that is what you want to do.

You don't think of a swamp as much of an attraction but they have created a wetlands area with easily trails. There is much to see in the way of wildlife. The only time I've seen a live armadillo was here. It is very picturesque and well maintained. They have an education/research center here as well. If you enjoy a walk in the wild here is the place. This place is also home to the settling ponds of of the water treatment. The smell, though not overpowering is distinct. I come down here to ride my bike on the roads around the ponds. This park is open sunrise to sunset.

We took our grandsons on an August morning when it was overcast and not too hot. My husband and I tried it one time when there was a heat advisory and we didn't even make it to the beginning of the trail. Bring water and insect repellant. Our grandsons thoroughly enjoyed the 2 mile trail although the 3 year old got tired of walking near the end. They have a small museum in a building that's at the end of one trail. It is only open on weekends. There's a sheltered picnic area by the parking lot and bathrooms with running water across the parking lot. This would be a good place to go in the fall or spring. The grandsons love animals and nature and really liked the park.

Pros:-You will see lots of wild life! We have seen: alligators, turtles, snakes, water frogs, tree frogs, huge crayfish, hawks, owls, ospreys, anhingas, great blue heron, white ibis, spoonbill, great white egret, geese, ducks, hogs, deer...and many more.-Amazing boardwalk through the swamp with beautiful cypress trees with Spanish moss hanging down.-Several paths ranging from a mile hike all the way to 4 miles.-Bring a picnic...there are several places you can hike to where you can sit and enjoy...just don't feed the animals and don't leave any trash.Cons:-Wear a hat! You will encounter deer flies that land on your head...but if you have a hat on, then you will be fine.-Bring bug spray-Not a place to bring your fishing poles.

I have visited several times and never have I been disappointed. This morning I went early, 9:00, and it was outstanding. The beauty of the swamp was at its peak. I took the Beaverdam Trail in reverse, which is always a good thing to do when you are expecting a hot day. If i was an artist I would never have gotten past the walkway. The venue was breathtaking! The osprey were standing on their nest taking care of their young and the bullfrogs and birds were out in abundance. As the morning went on and got hotter, I entered the first half which goes through the trees and is cooler. The walkway on the green trail was in disarray from the weather lately, but not really a problem and there was no mosquito problem at all. I did have to keep swatting the sweat flies but the problem was intermittent and did not detract from the pleasure of the walk. I walked this on my own but the first Saturday of each month, they have guided free tours through the swamp and the full-moon walks are not to be missed.Pets are welcome if you clean up after them and there is a 7-mile bicycle tour scheduled for October, according to their sign. Bring your camera, children, friends, and anyone else. This is worthwhile!

I drove over from Athens (about 1 1/2 hours) for my first visit to Phinizy Swamp and I wasn't disappointed. I spent about 2 hours walking around with my camera photographing birds, butterflies, dragonflies, and snakes. I also saw rabbits, deer, and an armadillo. A great place!
