We visited on a day that only the grounds and museum were open. The museum film show gave us a glimpse of the history of the place but did not show a great deal of the painted walls and ceilings inside the house that saved it from demolition. The children's exhibits, demonstrating how the Roman weapons worked were good. There is no food available here, only drinks from a machine so the option to stay longer and walk the grounds was cut short for us.The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Will have to visit again without my twin boys (aged 4) as didnt get chance to look at/read things properly. Staff very friendly and helpful. Also visited the House as it was an 'open day' and found it very interesting and worth planning a future visit.

Well worth the visit to this interesting estate. Keep your eyes open for some of the extra attractions that appear here from time to time during summer holidays. Staff friendly and helpful

Just returned from a fantastic day out at Kinneil House/Museum/Estate. Our first surprise on driving up the avenue was to see the 'Wee Kelpies' as our boys have named them - a small version of The Kelpies installed to celebrate the launch of the John Muir Way. We enjoyed a walk round the estate before a tour of Kinneil House, then a visit to the small but very informative museum. Have to congratulate the members of The Friends of Kinneil House who take the tours of the House. Obviously a small but dedicated and very knowledgeable group of people - keep up the good work! Kinneil House is only open on 8 days a year - check their website for full details. Well worth a visit.

From the friendlyness of the Kinneil Trust and Historic Scotland to the Museum Shop. All I can say is try this venue out. You,ll enjoy it.

Fantastic little Museum with lovely staff telling you about the history of Kinneil House and the Estate as well as the history of Bo'ness [Borrowstounness]. This museum is tucked away and is open monday-saturday 12:30 - 4:00pm. Poor signage to the Estate but the WoW factor is there when you enter into the Avenue. Worth a visit. The House is open several times a year, pity not all the time.

Loved Kinneil House and the museum is nice if a bit limited

The house dates from the 16th century. It has connections with the Dukes of Hamilton during the 16th and 17th centuries. It was in one of the cottages here that James Watt built the first large scale steam engine. His workshop can be seen. The museum is small and contains some Roman remains retrieved from the Antonine Wall that once passed through the grounds here.

This is a tiny museum but that is made up for by the very welcoming lady that works there. She was full of local knowledge and spoke to us at length about things to do in the area.

Interessantes, kleines Museum am Antonine Wall, mit schönem Park und Möglichkeiten zum Spazierengehen und Picknick machen. Städtchen ist ebenfalls sehenswert.
