If you visit Minsk, don't miss this very poignant reminder of the tragedy that befell the Jewish community here with the Nazi invasion and occupation. Between 1941 and 1943, up to 80,000 Jews were forced to live in the Minsk ghetto; almost all of them were murdered. This site, known locally as "Yama" (pit), was erected in 1946, a monument in honour of the murdered Jews from the Minsk ghetto on the former site of mass shootings in the ghetto. On March 2, 1942, about 5,000 Jews from the Minsk ghetto, including many children, were shot to death by the Nazis on this site. The monument was one of very few in the former Soviet Union to contain a Yiddish inscription and to specifically name Jews as the victims of the genocide.Come here for 10 or 15 minutes to remember, say a prayer for mankind, and vow to never forget.

This was a very though provoking monument. Simple, but beautifully presented. A must to see and to reflect on even though it may be a little difficult to find.

Despite small Jewish population, Nazis slaughtered whoever they could find from around the country. Famous "sand pit" episode memorialized here

Perhaps this is the place to discuss and evaluate correctly. This is just a place of memory and grief. However, the monument is impressive. Tragedy without pomposity. But all the spoils house, amphitheater enveloping this place. Excuse me, but it turns out some huge auditorium or even a circus. But the house was built in the Soviet Union. Then about such trifles did not think ...

Spent ages trying to find it in the park with boy and swan. Never did. TripAdvisor was telling me I was 1 meter from it. :-(

The pit as it is called locally is across the street from our apartment it is a very reverent place in the midst of a busy city. I wish there was a plaque in English to tell the story but it is available online so read about it before you go to get more out of it.

Beautiful sculptures of people being led to their death in the pit, 5000 people in one day. They are faceless including a pregnant woman, child, and person playing the violin. The people symbolize the anguish of millions killed senselessly including children from the nearby orphanage. It's a sober reminder of the horrific past the people of Belarus endured. It's a very short walk and easy to get to. It's a must see

Its somber and grave...a monument to the thousands of Jews killed by the Nazis. There are also the names of Righteous Gentiles who helped the Jews in need. My taxi driver called it Yama (Russian for pit.) The statues of the victims remind us of the pain and suffering inflicted upon the victims of the Nazi horror. A fine tribute to those who perished.

This memorial is very different from many others we have seen around the world. It is made up of a large number of bronze figures going down a steep hill. You can feel the anguish just looking at the figures. It is touching to the soul.

it is just as it should be. The sculpture of twenty or more Jewish people, with children, one playing a violin, descending naked into the pit where over 5000 were executed on one day, is harrowing to look at. It is a fitting memorial, and an event that cannot then be lost from human memory. It is a very short walk just behind the Yubileiny hotel in Minsk

great embodiment of fear and despair and a terrifying example of human cruelty and violence. we were driving so it wasn't too hard to find it. not very far from McDonalds on Nemiga Street. if I am not mistaken it is placed on Melnikaite street. we parked nearby and crossed the street on yellow bright zebra crossing (close to some sort of school) and went right about 50m and on the crossing with another street you may find a hollow with a monument.
