A good museum to learn a bit about Slovenia and also the local culture of the area around. The staff tried to help but a bit awkward with the English language differences.

Well presented exhibits on geology, pre-history, history and 20th century (WWII). Not large exhibits so it was perfect to get a good understanding of the history of this region with out getting overwhelmed. Lots of nice artifacts. The large WWII exhibit is only in Slovenian and focuses on the mobilization of the local population into the Partisan-lead resistance and the story of these fighters. If you can't read Slovenian, you will struggle with the exhibit. Without taking away from the sacrifices of the resistance that is documented and commemorated in this exhibit, the WWII exhibit doesn't cover other important aspects of those years, e.g., the post-war massacres in Kocevski Rog, the broader geopolitical context, Nazi and Fascist strategies, etc. Their nearby exhibition of local Slovenian painters is also worth visiting - some really memorable pieces on display. The museum staff were very helpful and welcoming in both places.

We aspected a nice museum of a partisan camp, that was still there after the Second World War, it is called Baza 20. After paying the entrance fee we had to walk up a steep hill for over 500 meters. In the woods you find wooden houses that where hidden in the woods. There are only two houses opened and in there you can reed about this camp and see some pictures. This can be much nicer if the restaure the houses a little bit and let visitors see what live was in these partisan camps
