This is the worlds largest maelstrom supposedly and it us quite dramatic. But to get it at its best it needs to be visited near the turn of the tide. Some distance from Bodo so transport is required

It's difficult to explain, you have to go there by yourself. Walking over the bridge, looking down into the maelstrom. Buying local food on kafe Kjelen or at Saltstraumen hotel. A peaceful and spectacular place close to Bodø airport.

Impressive nature. Even in the winter times a real spectacular view. But the ways there have not been plowed, so it was really slippery down to the sea.

It was an amazing place, whirlpools within whirlpools. We saw people fishing but we didn't have our rods at that time so wasn't able to try our luck. We walked along the path and saw the most interesting natural phenomenon. Definitely must see.

There has been lots of world records here in diving and of course fishing. You could be 100% sure to catch fish in all sizes and sorts here, both from land and boat. Beautiful surrounding nature and mountaintops.

22 knots when the tide is changing. Spotted a PADI dive center on the top of a nearby hill but it is not a place I would choose to dive - too cold and the currents too fast.

Worlds 5 greatest dive site at the world strongest malstøm. Great fishing. Nice surroundings and nature. The best that north of Norway have to offer.

Check the tide timetables before going. Also, to see spectacular large photos of the underwater life, drop into the visitor center right by the parking lot under the bridge.

Spectacular, nature phenomenon, app. 1 hours drive from Bodø. Museum restaurant and beautifull old church near by

I love it. Nature at its prettiest is something northern Norway guarantees, and this is one of its highlights .

A nice thing to see. There is a really nice campingplace next to the saltstraumen with clean bathrooms, kitchens and saunas. However the saltstraumen is interresting to see, fishing was not too good. In 3 hours we caught like 4-5 medium sized fish. (right under the bridge offshore) While we did so the water was streaming though the bay and created wirlpools. (when you want to see that beware the times of high and low- tight). you can astk these times at the campingplace registration. The gasolinestation on the other side of the bridge accepts only credit carts (no cash for fuel)

Worth any detour to see this strong current caused by all the water forcing its way out from the fjord to the ocean. A car park (free of charge) is just next by.You can walk up the bridge to see the stream from above as well as go down to the water front to see it close up.The museum next by unfortunately has been closed down as we've been there.

We’d seen some very unimpressive pictures of this maelstrom before we visited on route for somewhere else and were delighted that the reality was much better than we had expected. In the snow-covered mountain landscape and bright blue skies the maelstrom looked interesting from the distance but once ribs were in the water and we could see the scale in the landscape it was awesome.Add a white-tailed eagle... and it was a moment to remember.

The 'rage' of the maelstrom depends on 4 factors, winter is better, low pressure zone, spring tides, good daylight. I visited on the average for all 4, but even so it was impressive. Many times I thought a really large whirlpool was going to develop (Look down from the centre of the bridge) or a massive up-swell which failed to rotate. I'm still very glad I went to see it

On business in Rognan I took a detour down the 17 from Bodo, just to see 'The Worlds Strongest Maelstrom'. It's worth taking the time to see if your in the area, just park up on either side of the bridge and walk over.
