The Cathedral itself is somewhat overshadowed by the Basilica down the road, but both are well worth a visit. In addition to the Cathedral itself, there are archaeological excavations accessible from the crypt.

The building was originally built in Byzantine style in 1062, and rebuilt in Romanesque form in 1170 after the destruction it had undergone at the hands of William the Wicked (Il Malo) in 1156. It is the seat of the archbishops of Bari and dedicated to Saint Sabinus, a bishop of Canosa. The cathedral is divided in three aisles of 16 beautiful columns with arcades and host the relics of Saint Sabinus in its crypt.

The cathedral is set in a little square a couple of minutes walk away from bari's centre. There is also a crypt inside the cathedral. Worth the visit!

My friend and I walked through the old town down to the port and came across this lovely cathedral where a church service was going on. Love the way church is casually, and frequently part of European lives. Everyone was dressed up though, and we sat at the back wondering what the occasion was. First hymn was one we knew, so sang with gusto, but not in Italian! Gave up after awhile, and left, but it was lovley.

This is official the main church of the city since it is the site of Archbishop. Nonetheless, tourist who go to Bari are more aware of the Basilica of St.Nicholas. The cathedral, is close to the castle in the middle of the old town. Its exterior is quite similar to the basilica. Once again, we are confronted with a Byzantine church quite similar to St.Nicolas basilica. The real gem is the crypt with its altar piece. The architecture style of the cathedral is different from that of the main church with main small arches.

Visited here via tourist train. Pleasant to walk around and take a few photos. Include in any tour around the main attractions in Bari, but you won't need more than an hour unless you are very interested in this type of church or architecture.

While this is not a cathedral of the usual European stature, it is still a very nice old church with a mix of Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox design. It makes for a nice place to pause while touring Bari.

there is free entrance to the Cathedral museum, which host lots of art masterpieces and mideval treasures. There is also a collection of Russian orthodox holy icons.

No matter how big or small the monuments, churches or whatever you visit in Italy, this country will always surprise you! What a beautiful cathedral, simple, well kept and with a great architecture.

Not as large or as impressive as the Basillica di San Nicola which can be seen from this cathedral. Apparently it is known as Bari Cathedral and is dedicated to San Sabinus. Built in the late 12th century and early 13th century, beautiful but because there was a service going on we did not see it all - small but worth a visit though.

If you are visiting Bari do not miss seeing this cathedral. Located in the Old Town section near the Basilica of St. Nicholas in the heart of the city, the surrounding streets make a lovely stroll through an ancient area. The cathedral is not particularly ornate nor bright in color but it is tasteful, spacious, well-kept, and a splendid structure well worth the stop.

Not as ornate as many Catholic churches, it has some interesting Roman architecture. The crypt is very interesting. There is not much difference inside than in the Basilica di San Nicola. In one of these two, they get oil from the body of Saint Nick and sell it in the gift shop.

Bari is a pleasant town and worth taking the time to look around. The cathedral is not world class, but is well worth a visit.
