When you first see it, it does not me much but once you totally take it in you truly appreciate it. I recommend walking by the chair and then coming back and spending at least 10-20 minutes to truly appreciate its beauty.

When you get inside this place, there is only one word to describe it. There are so many amazing sights in this place, you have to see them to believe them. Awesome

This is just a drop in the bucket in terms of the amazing things that fill St. Peter's Basilica, but it is absolutely stunning. You can't really get too close to it, but it is enormous, a chair cased in bronze symbolizing his status as the first Pope. A must-see (just like everything else in Vatican City).

You shouldnt tittle it "Chair of st Peter" because it doesnt do it any justice . Its a "God Masterpiece" Please zoom in your camera since you cant go near it and see what detailing they have done there. Its Breath-taking !

This is another masterpiece by Bernini and just one of the incredible works of art inside the Basilica. We were there one morning as part of just one of the many tour groups exploring the area.

after entering the basilica, this monument stands at the far end .it is actually a colossal bronzed chair which is believed to be the chair of saint peter, who was the 1st saint.this chair signifies his symbol as authority as the leader of the church.around the chair are magnificent stained glass, which give a golden glow.the area is always crowded by tourists but being here gives a surreal, peaceful n spiritual feeling.though i am non catholic i felt great being here for those 10-15 minutes but its a must see inside the basilica.

From an art/beauty standpoint, this is amazing. I am Catholic so it also had a lot of significance to me. It’s held up by statues of great Doctors of the Church (St. Ambrose and St. Augustine for the West, and St. John Chrysostom and St. Athanasius for the East). The dove (representing the Holy Spirit) is not actually stained glass as I had supposed, but a thin carving of alabaster that causes the whole area to glow golden.

To see the chair is important history of Roman Catholic Church as St Peter was considered the first priest in Christian world . Jesus chose him to take care of his sheep as He is a good Shepherd and the key to Christian Church. The chair is his authority symbol as the leader of the church.

During our Reserved Tour of the Vatican which was booked by the manager/hostess at Residenza Borghese, we visited the Cathedra Petri, and our english speaking guide explained the history about this beautiful Basilica as the largest one in the world, she showed as the many markings of the other basilica in Germany, United States etc that were smaller than this one in Vatican City. We saw the many altars and great architect and great beautiful altar built over Saint Peter's burial site. What great history of the popes that were on display and that they will be canonized in 2014.It was a site to behold from inside and outside.

Take note of the strict dress code when you enter the St Peter's Basilica. No bare shoulders or knees for both men and woman. I always keep a pashmina in my handbag when travelling and this comes in very handy when we visit religious sites. The St Peter's Basilica boasts opulence and splendor all around and the colossal bronze Chair of Saint Peter adds to the opulence and splendor surrounding the St Peter's Basilica. Not to be missed!

The museum is realy an out if this world experience, but the church at the end of the tour was just "ok" for me. sure, its huge, but i didnt like it. (the one in Siena is far more amazing). and we didnt go up to the dome at the end cause the line was huge, and they wanted 7 euros more, after the 20 we already paid.

In the St.Peter Basilica, just behind the famous Baldachin, is another masterpiece of Bernini, called the Chair of Saint Peter. The Cathedra Petri was designed and built between 1647 and 1653. It is a bronze throne built around a wooden chair which is believed to be the chair of St. Peter. Four fathers of the church are restraining the chair. They are Athanasius and Johannes, representing the Eastern Church and Ambrose and Augustine with miters, representing the Western Church.Bronze and golden clouds seems to raise the chair into a heaven of dancing angels, with beautiful stained glass in the middle, representing the wholly spirit, the dove. Magnificent designed by Bernini, using the wooden chair, bronze, gold, marble and brightly gold lighted stained glass. Perfectly placed in the apse of St. Peters's Basilica.
