Castello de Pietra is truly amazing and I have visited it twice before, but it is currently closed because of landslides. We went to see it on May 12th as it is usually open every weekend starting the beginning of April. We were very disappointed that it remains closed and there was no sign indicating when it might be opened again. The front gate is locked, although it is still easy to gain access, but we did not go in. We did check the website and didn't find any information regarding the closing or when it may reopen. So many park attractions and roads have been affected by landslides including Cinque Terre as it was a very wet winter and spring. So if you are visiting from Genoa, stop by the tourist office to see if/when it will reopen. If you are driving from Isola di Cantone towards Vobbia you will see it suddenly appear from the road, but if you drive in the other direction its very difficult to see. I hope it reopens soon as its really a wonderful place to visit!

As an American living in Genova, I am very enthusiastic about the city and all it has to offer. Genova has the ocean, the mountains and incredible parks for all those who love outdoor activities. It’s the area outside the city center that doesn’t get very much attention by the visitor and it’s really a shame, as we have some fantastic parks such as Parco Avventura Genova-Righi, Beigua and Antola Park (Parco Naturale Regionale dell’Anola www.parcoantol.it ) where Castello della Pietra is located. They believe that this castle was constructed around 1100 for the Bishops of Tortona. Around the end of the 1200 the castle was purchased by the famous Spinola family (you will see their name everywhere!) and they kept it until 1518 when it was passed on to the Fieschi family, thus much of its history is tied up with these two families. Fast forward to 1979 when the castle was donated to the municipality of Genova and restoration began on it in 1981.It was opened to the public in 1994 and again restored and rededicated in 2008. Thanks to its elevated position it was constructed as a practically impregnable garrison and it’s very well concealed and camouflaged between two massive rocks, so the castle still dominates the valley. It can be visited all summer (beginning of May through October and they host a great Halloween party!) and it’s well worth the 20 minute up hill climb on a path for the incredible views of the valley below. There are guided tours, offered in Italian, but there is plenty of information written in English to give you an idea about the history and function of the castle. If you have a car, getting there is easy... Take the autostrada A7 going towards Milano/Genova and exit at Isola del Cantone (about 30 minutes) and follow the signs towards the town of Vobbia. Go slowly as the entrance isn’t well marked and you should see it before you get to Vobbia. When you get ready to depart, continue towards Crocefieschi/Vobbia and that puts you back on A7. You can make a full day of it and get there by train (a bit tricky) using the Ferrovia Genova Casella line (see my review). Ask the train conductor to let you off at the “stazione di Busella” and ask him to direct you to the ATP bus for Vobbia/Castello della Pietra. Make note of the return time, or you will be stuck in the park! I believe the entrance fee is 6 Euros, and the tours on the weekends are every hour starting at 10:30 until 5:30pm. The tourist offices usually stocks a great brochure called Apennines and the Valleys for nature and sport enthusiast or check to see if they have “City Break Genova” which provides more information about Castello della Pietra. Un castello incastrato fra due guglie di roccia granitica, da cui si domina la valle, restaurato non tanti anni fa e visitabile con tutta la famiglia, raggiungibile con 10 minuti a piedi su un bel sentiero nel bosco. Da non dimenticare abbigliamento comodo e scarpe da ginnastica.Uno dei posti poco conosciuti del ns. apennino e che vale la pena di valorizzare.

Situato in Val Vobbia, questo particolare castello costruito in posizione sopraelevata, incastrato nella roccia della montagna, tanto che, grazie al colore, sembra esserne parte. Si lascia l'auto in un parcheggio lungo la strada e si sale a piedi, con un sentiero in salita, ma non ripido. Arrivati in cima, si visita l'interno, dove sono allestite mostre permanenti.

Adatto per chi è disposto a fare una ripida salita con 400 mt di dislivello. Il castello, su un ripido costone di roccia, domina la valle e controllava una delle vie di transito tra la costa e l'entroterra. Molto interessante.

Sono in corso lavori straordinari al Castello della Pietra di Vobbia. Pertanto fino al termine della risistemazione è vietato l'accesso al Castello attraverso il sentiero che sale dalla strada provinciale (sentiero breve) e non risulta possibile ammettere il pubblico per le visite alla struttura.IL CASTELLO RESTERA' CHIUSO FINO ALLA FINE DEI LAVORI. sono certo più di 60 anni che ci vado quasi tutte le estati ; la mia casa di campagna, vicino ad Arquata lo rende facile .Ma lo ricordo come era tanti anni fa, quando non erano stati fatti restauri ed era già una arrampicata arrivare ad entrarvi .Ora si va facilmente sul torrione più alto tramite la passerella di grigliato ( non si deve soffrire di vertigini!) , ma se guardate sotto di essa vedete ancora la vecchia via ferrata ( un cavo ) con la quale ci arrampicavamo sospesi su 200 metri di vuoto , mettendo i piedi su una stretta cengia ore quasi scomparsa (su questa, prima che crollasse , fino a 200 anni fa passava uno stretto sentiero a scalini di cui si vede ancora l'inizio )Un'altra cosa di cui non si parla è una lapidina , che era dentro la cisterna sotto il salone ; non mi pare ci sia ancora) che ricordava un caduto nell'ascensione .Meglio ora! Il castello della pietra è davvero incastonato tra le rocce. La strada da fare con la macchina per arrivarvi è sconsigliata a chi atisce l'auto perchè ricchissima di curve. La strada da fare a piedi per arrivare in cima al castello non è così difficoltosa.

Se siete amanti dei giri in moto appenninici programmate una tappa in val Vobbia!Il castello della pietra avrà modo di stupirvi per la posizione, la vista e il senso di vertigine in certi passaggi.Ci si immerge in un mondo medioevale che fa dimenticare per un attimo le moto lasciate a valle!Ma mi raccomando: evitate i giorni di afa per non arrivare in cima esausti con la tuta appiccicata alla pelle!

A pochi km da Genova, nella Val Vobbia questo castello vale la visita. Non tanto per gli interni, ma per la passeggiata, lo scenario e la natura. Evitate stagioni troppo calde: vi aspetta una bella salita e farla sotto il solleone non e' il massimo.

Castello molto suggestivo soprattutto quando ti appare svoltata una curva.Altrettanto suggestivo è il panorama che si può godere dall'alto.Poco impegnativa la camminata di circa 20 minuti che serve per raggiungerlo e che contribuisce ad arricchirlo di fascino.

Come fareste a proteggere la vostra casa dai piu accerrimi nemici ? Semplicemente costruendola nel punto piu alto , incastrandola tra due speroni di roccia ma sul bordo di un precipizio !!! Questo e' il Castello della Pietra.Merita una visita guidata per entrare nella storia tra il 1100 e il 1400 e conoscere i dettagli di questo piccolo e interessante maniero.Si fa una salita di 20minuti a piedi oppure un sentiero che parte da Vobbia.CONSIGLIATO A CHI VUOL FARE UN GIROA PIEDI FUORI PORTA E VIA DALLA PAZZA FOLLA.

Pur abitando vicino al Castello della Pietra, ho percorso per la prima volta oggi il sentiero dei castellani che da loc. Torre (vicino a Vobbia) conduce al castello della pietra lungo un tracciato praticamente pianeggiante. Bella passeggiata di 4 Km e sorprendente la vista del castello che compare all'improvviso ad certo punto del percorso!Consiglio di andare alla domenica perchè alcuni volontari aprono il castello ai visitatori.
