We only viewed this church from the outside, but it was distinctive because the building dates from 1678. It is very well maintained and appears stately not decorative.
The Old Town of Passau is relatively small and very walkable. This church is definitely worth a visit. It is not far from St. Stephen's Cathedral.
St. Paul is a nice, quiet church to visit on the way to the Cathedral. It isn't a large church, so can be quickly seen.
Beautiful inside, majestic outside this church has an even taller spire than St Stephens cathedral. First built in 1050 it was destroyed by fire and rebuilt in the 1660s.
Beautiful church with very pale walls and ceiling. Altars and decorations are in black wood with gold touches. The new side chapel is so different but worth seeing. Stunning church.
I loved this church. Its easy to find and very beautiful inside. Compare it to St. Stephens and see which you like best. But do go as you will find it stunning.
St Stephen has it's size and organ but St Paul has a uniqueness that is surprising. It shouldn't take but a few minutes to visit, so make the effort. You can compare and contrast Paul's interior to the rest of the great cathedral you'll see.
Located just a few blocks up from the Danube near the town center, St. Paul's church is an amazing work of art inside. The exterior is majestic but nowhere near as ornate as the interior. The religious imagery is framed in a very dark wood but the interior remains rather bright and airy. Not as heavily visited by tourists as the nearby Cathedral of St. Steven, I found the place rather peaceful and closer to my idea of a place to worship than other more majestic but clearly show off cathedrals or churches. Definitely worth a visit.
St. Paul is nestled in a quiet corner of Passau. It is awesome! Quite a treat to visit this beautiful church and feel the history of this lovely town.
we entered the church on a Sunday morning and had to wait for mass to be finished. But it was worth while. You walk up 2 flights of stairs and it looks like a sacred place for pilgrims. Place to meditate and come back to yourself
The St. Paul Church is the oldest parish church from Passau. The anno1050 church was to St. Paul ordained. After the destruction in the fires of 1512 and 1662, the present building originated 1678.At the St. Paul bow, the North Gate of the old town, a staircase in cream and pink leads up to the towered Church. Master Builder is Carlo Antonio Carlone. The Spire was only mounted in the 20th century.Inside, the black, goldened altar,s and the similarly colored pulpit stand out from the light coloured walls. The large high altar dating back to 1700 is a painting by Franz Tamm and shows the decapitation of the Apostle Paul. The side altars and the pulpit were createdin 1678-1689. The painting ‘Lamentation of Christ’ (1689) is by Johann Michael Rottmayr. The plain object was no early installed than 1909.
