Just a short stroll from Aachen HBF, it's a reminder of the walls which use to encircle the city. Could do with some minor maintenance though. A thick layer of bird droppings covered the path through the gate.

This gateway, part of the original town walls, is quite impressive. We had to walk a little out of our way to find it but it was worth the walk. The structure is well preserved and we really enjoyed just looking at all the detail on it.

Nice remaining tower for the old city wall. Theres a lovely statue of an 18th century gent sharpening a pencil...wish my German was good enough to understand the plaque explaining it...

Had a look on our way to town a while ago. It's right outside our hotel, which takes its name. So we couldn't miss it. It's an interesting bit of Aachen's history. The town was, after all, capital of Charlemagne's Holy Roman Empire; and do I remember from far off schooldays that some horsemen brought some good news there from Ghent? I wonder how the city got the name of Aix-la-Chapelle though, since apart from during the Napoleonic period, it never was French!

This tower is actually much closer to the central train station, easy walk from there. Look for a bakery which has the best and freshest goods in Aachen. Apple strudel is out of this world!! Very nice staff, too. this is on Boxgrab Strasse, not on the markt square near the rathaus. Why would a wall tower be in the middle of town???

The Marschiertor (built around 1300) is one of the remaining gates of Aachen and is one of the most powerful old city gates of Western Europe. The building is located a little lonely south of the city center and it is a surprise when it comes into the picture, because you do not expect such a beautiful old building here. It is definitely fun to watch when you're in the neighborhood. From the city center it is a small walk. It is also close to the train station.

Visitamos a cidade de Aachen e sem querer encontramos o Marschiertor um lugar simples e bem interessante, diz que ali era uma passagem para esta bela cidade.

Bem legal. Bonito, simples e nos leva há história da cidade, que é Riquíssima. A cidade tem várias ruínas e com explicações do ano de cada coisa. Muito legal.

een indrukwekkende oude stadspoort die dank zij het gevoel voor cultuurhistorie heel goed bewaard is gebleven. Het stil blijven staan bij deze fraaie poort is aan te raden.

遠くから近くに近づくにつれてとても重厚感のある風格の建造物という印象でした。建物中央のゲート部分をくぐる時が中世に踏み入れたような感覚で良かったです。

É uma das "portas" de entrada de Aachen. Simples e parece mais uma passagem. Na verdade, era essa sua utilização na idade média.

Это первое, что Вам встретится по дороге от ж/д вокзала в Старый город. Прелесть в том, что не очень-то похожи на ворота, скорее на сторожевую башню(очень высокая - около 50 м). К сожалению, почти полностью уничтоженная во время бомбардировок города.Восстановлена в начале 60-х прошлого века. С внутренней стороны установлена скульптура сидящего солдата.

Проходные ворота - вторые из сохранившихся городских ворот. Сооружение очень оригинальное и очень высокое ( во время путешествий по Европе ничего подобного не видел). По структуре : две башни с тремя боевыми ярусами и объединяющее их надвратное здание. Проем проходных ворот с одной стороны ворот многоярусный ( вероятно верхним ярусом является оборонительный надвратный проем для подачи горячей смолы). Еще большую схожесть с башней замка придает гардеробная - средневековый туалет, находящийся на стене одной из башен.

kleines "Bauwerk" welches direkt in der Nähe des Aachener Hauptbahnhofs steht. Ein kurzer Aufenthalt vor dem Marschiertor lohnt sich. Ich habe erst gestern eine Neuigkeit dort entdeckt. Nun wohne ich schon seit 43 Jahren in Aachen. Gestern habe ich eine Figur vor dem Marschiertor gesehen. Die man sich ansehen sollte. ( Ein sitzender Sldat der etwas mit Karneval zu tun hat.) Leider kann man nur so durch das Marschiertor gehen. Hier gibt es keine Möglichkeit, sich mal kurz hinzusetzen. Um die Aussicht zu genießen. Schade. Denn ein Cafe würde sich hier bestimmt gut rentieren.

Wenn man ohnehin in der Nähe dieses Gebäude ist, sollte man sich das Tor ruhig anschauen, die Höhe der Türen und die alten Holzriegel lassen einen Eindruck von der damaligen Größe erahnen.
