The castle is quite impressive perched on top of the cliff. Half the fun in going was the journey up the staircase, but they have closed that entrance to discourage people from taking the stairs for safety reasons. You can still climb the stairs ( well worth it for great views!), you just can't enter once you get to the top. I felt safe the whole time on the stairs. If you are in decent shape and don't do anything careless like run or walk or walk on them in the rain, they are fine. There is no easy way for pedestrians to get to the main entrance. There is a road, but it's really far to get there walking.

The castle is situated on an outstanding bluff with 360 views. The fort is in pretty decent shape. Plenty of space to roam. Views of the sea and mountains are excellent. Disappointed again by the graffiti painted everywhere and vandalism of stones and plants. I guess as an American we take these things for granted but its still hard to swallow seeing such awe inspiring history splattered with artifacts left by someone who was less than inspired.

1000 steps up from the old town you are treated to sweeping views. Careful if you get vertigo, this is not the climb for you. The stairs are mostly in the open with no handrails.

It was a super hot day, but worth the sweat to hike the stairs. Great views and amazing sense of history.

The Palamidi Castle is a must attraction in the area of Nafplio, mainly because of the view you get from up there. Thanks to its location, the castle overlooks the whole bay and enables the traveler to understand the geography of this area much better. About the castle itself, you won't learn much up there, you had better refer to your touristic guide. In the warm months July-August-Spetember- avoid the climb using the stairs, unless you're looking for loosing weight by extensive sweating. Whatever you do in Nafplio, don't miss it, this is a highlight, you may not have such a breathtaking view on the rest of your trip.

It's a must to visit Palamidi when you are at Nafplion. Not so much for the place itself, but for the fantastic view from up there. We suggest that you take a taxi up and descend on foot, so that you enjoy the beautiful scenery. Best time of the year is the spring, when almond trees are in bloom, and wild flowers abandon.

I would go again if I needed to take pictures, as it is very old, the actual structure is there, however there isnt that much else unless you buy a book and read the history on it, to our amazement there werent any guides, I wish there were and I would of paid Extra for it.You definately should go and see it as it is on a Top hill with an amazing view of Nafplio

Palamidi Castle, is a really impressive site to visit, either on foot (around 1000 steps) or by car. We climbed up.The site which offers really amazing views of Nafplio and Argolikos Bay. Allow time to explore as it's a large archaeological site. Kolokotronis prison cell is the highlight, but the site is full of places to explore. We visited in the winter and the site was extra beautiful with all the grasses and plants growing among the castle walls.

Fantastic view although tiring to climb the stairs . I think it is worthwhile! It is good that there are not many souvenir shops around !

We were amazed at the views from this Castle, perched high above Nafplion, and making our cruise ship appear as a tiny craft out on the harbour! I could only think of Edinburgh Castle by way of comparison as to size and the number of passageways, courtyards and high walls. Palamidi has several levels, being built on the hillside, and it is quite an adventure moving up higher as the pathways wound around, with ever-changing views. Being seniors, we stopped at the second top level as the views from here were wonderful, but younger folk could easily go up to the top walls where we saw many enjoying the novelty of being kings on the castle walls! Visiting Palamidi was a delightful surprise. Highly recommended for cruise ship travellers as an add-on to a visit to Epidaurus. Our family of 4 adults saw both places comfortably on a half day trip with Taxi Hellas at a most affordable price. Not to be missed!

Amazing location over the Agean Sea, very well preserved Venetian fort. Lots of chances to climb, but can also reach it by car, very easy to imagine the fort in use. The fort prison and the history around it add the thrill.

If you are fit enough, get to Palamidi castle from the nearly 1000 stairs as the views of Nauplio and the surrounding area are breathtaking! Once you get to the castle itself, you can admire a fine example of Venetian fortification as well as the prison of Kolokotronis.
