I believe that Epidaurus Theatre Is very impressive and the acoustics of the theatre is unbelievably good.Epidaurus theatre remains an exceptionally well-preserved and fine example of the best of ancient greek theatre design.

This theatre has perfect acoustics. Our tour group had an english professor on it and she treated us all to a recital from A Midsummers Nights Dream. My son and I could hear every word she said from the "cheap seats". The sweeping views were great. The architectural accomplishment is something to be marvelled. All this for the healing power of theatre.

Epidaurus is probably most famous for its theatre, well worth a trip from Athens to see it. We were informed by the guide thatthe theater is still in use today and proven to be one of the best preserved classical Greek buildings. If you go, make sure you go up to the top just to hear its amazing acoustics.

Wonderful to return to Epidaurus after 35 years and be reminded why it made such an impression! The theatre is awe-inspiring - a marvel of engineering and a living piece of incredible history. But there is so much more! Do explore the whole site - a wonderful array of ancient buildings and temples in a truly evocative and peaceful setting. Not to be missed!

Ancient Epidaurus was considered the greatest "wellness center" of the Classical World. Unhealthy individuals from throughout the Mediterranean World would come here to relax in the therapeutic mineral baths that were believed to harbor restorative properties. The theater at Epidaurus was an important part of the healing process. The Ancient Greeks believed that "laughter is the best medicine," so the ancient comedies played a part in the rehabilitative process. The theater is the best preserved of its kind, and the acoustics are extraordinary, especially when one considers the technological limitations of the era. The saying that "you can hear a whisper at the top of the theater" is absolutely true. We, along with many other tourists, tried that little trick the moment we arrived. An added bonus is the extraordinarily beautiful views of the countryside one will take in around Epidaurus. Put this site on your itinerary while in Greece. It's close to Athens and is well worth the time!

There is more to see than "just" the theatre. Lots of ancient temples in the area and also the museum. Kids loved to sing here :D

This is surely one of the most impressive theatres surviving from antiquity. Everyone does the experiment of listening to hear whether you can hear a whisper in the highest row (115 steps to the top by my count) and, needless to say, you can. The setting is wonderful.

Just amazing. Make sure to climb to the top rows. Usually people are there trying the acoustics so you will get the chance to experience first hand how amazing they are. The surrounding scenery is very nice too and totally suited to this great place. Make sure to visit the Asklipion archaeological site nearby and the Epidaurus museum.

Everything I could say about the theatre has been said by others. So instead of repeating them, I'll just add that your visit should not be confined to the theatre itself. Just a few steps away there is a small museum, and just a few steps further is an extensive archaeological area. There you will find a stadium, parts of several buildings, and some steles with writing. Don't make the mistake of looking at the site from a distance and not venturing in: some of the most interesting parts are not visible from the main path that leads to the theatre.Archaeological activity here is very active, and actually one of the archaeologists told me that they are certain there are far more artifacts hidden under the surrounding hills. They don't want to unearth them yet because they are so busy trying to reconstruct the things that are already unearthed. As for the theatre itself, please don't test the acoustics! Not only will the staff get annoyed, but so, too, will a lot of other visitors. Show some respect. If you want to see the acoustics "in action", come to a show during the Epidavros Festival.

The theatre is part of the Asklepion, an ancient Greek sanctuary for health, using the local thermal springs, founded in the 6th century BC. The setting is amazing - you reach the site from some low mountains and the theatre is high above the old town of Epidauros. There is not a great deal left to see of the sanctuary but the theatre is very well preserved. It has outstanding acoustics, which the tour guides demonstrate repeatedly. There's a small museum on the site but most of the best artefacts are in the National Archaelogical Museum in Athens. Be warned if you go in winter, however, as it can get very cold - there was even snow underfoot when we went in late December. There's also not much by way of modern facilities in the winter either (no eating places for example) but some empty buildings suggested there's more there when the weather is better. The complex is quite a long way from the town and it may be better to do this as part of a tour rather than under your own steam.

I recommend walking up the many steps to the top of the theatre to take in the view. The tour guide shoed us how the acoustics change and improve as a person moves towards the centre circle at the ground level of the theatre.
