One of the biggest churches I've ever seen. Huge. A guided visit there would be great. I dont know if there is any...Beautiful place to go.

A quick walk through of the cathedral, large and spacious of baroque style interior. Not being Catholic it probably meant less to us and it didn't really have a history to tell.

If you enjoy viewing neoclassic architecture, you will not want to miss the cathedral. The decoration is elaborate but restrained. Very different than many of the baroque churches that South America is known for.

hoarding along the front, and scaffolding on the spires. but worth a look. Don't be a rude tourist by barging about with cameras...be discreet, Chileans are good Catholics and are always popping in and out for a prayer or two

The church is right on the Plaza de Armas which a common place to visit so you do not have to got out of your way to stop in and see this church. As a matter of fact, the free walking tour meets out front. The church had beautiful altars-one was covered with silver.

Older & more impressive that the Cathedral in Buenos Aires -certainly worth a visit but it doesn't have to be too long. The Catholic religion is certainly more vibrant & heartfelt in Latin America and you see/ feel that in their statues & shrines within churches -something I noted in all my various church visits in Chile & Argentina. But there are no wonderful masterpieces within the Cathedral -we are spoilt for choice in Europe.

Main city cathedrals are always interesting as they contain a lot of local history. This one is not great compared to a lot of other cities. The facade dates to the 18th century. The spires were built later and are currently under refurbishment. The interior is dark, not very ornate, and very long, high, and relatively narrow.Worth a stop, and there are some lovely altars and silver ornamentation. If this review is helpful then please indicate so below.

I agree that this isn't at the same kind of grandeur as many of the other cathedrals in the world, but it's extremely convenient and they pay special attention to Chilean saints which is noteworthy. Also, there's a crypt on the lower level where all of the recent cardinals from Santiago are buried.

The cathedral was under renovation because of earthquake damage during my visit in October. Since then I have noticed in photos that the renovations are finished and the cathedral in uncovered. Plaza de Armas, where the cathedral is located, is a very busy place day and night. You can reach the Cathedral by metro (underground) by getting off at the Plaza de Armas station. I unfortunately wasn't able to get any good photos of the cathedral because of the renovation project. I hope you get to enjoy the cathedral. Happy Travels!!!

Nothing compared to the historical cathedrals in Europe, but this is a place to visit and consider the background history on it when you are saying in Santiago.

Located in Plaza de Armas and is the seat of the Archdiscese of Santiago. Constructed 1748, as 4 previous ones on this spot were destroyed by earthquakes beginning in 1528. Stunning baroque interior, stands up beautifully to European cathedrals. Mass daily, times posted at entry.. *Had the lovely experience of Ash Wednesday Mass here last week with Archbishop Ricardo Ezzati Andrello officiating.

Beautiful and very large Cathedral on a lovely square. This is one of those opulent Churches that shows the excesses of the days when the church ruled Chile.

We (I and my wife and friends) visited the Cathedral which is in Armes Plaza. There's restoration work being done on the outside but the inside is great. Nice place for a break. No restaurants in the near, don't go at lunch time.

We visited the Cathedral which is in Armes Plaza. There's restoration work being done on the outside but the inside is great. Nice place for a break. We visited it around 1pm in the afternoon and listened to a service. Enjoyed the singing.

Chile is a very Christian place and visiting the cathedral is a must if you are taking a walking tours of the city. It is right on the square so you can't miss it. There are several ornate altars which many people like. Other side altars represent many saints in the Catholic Church.
