The place is quite secluded on a normal day and there's a lot to walk around amid tall trees. I feel fresh and rejuvenated each time I visit this place for the silence and peaceful ambience it beholds.

Situated at the heart of Thrissur. Closely related to thrissur pooram. One of my favorite places in Thrissur.

Singam10

This is one of the famous temples in south India. Kerala's biggest festival Thrissur Pooram takes places here every year and one shouldn't miss this and it occurs every May. Please make sure you have Earmuffs when you stay there as they fire Huge amount of Crackers with loud noise.

If you appreciate temple architecture and like to hang around sometime in a peaceful surroundings and if you happen to visit Kerala do not miss Vadakkunnathan (Lord Siva)Temple in Trichur, which is the cultural capital of Kerala. The town is planned around the ground called Tekkinkaadu maidanam and the temple is situated in the centre of the huge ground. The age old huge banyan tree in front of the temple welcome you to the temple.Evening is the best time to visit as the lights bring a divine atmosphere. Dress code to be followed. Men have to remove their shirts...jeans and other such clothes are not allowed. Check for the date of the famous Trichur Pooram somewhere in May and that will be an unforgettable experience

This temple is the place where one can find absolute peace of mind. The place in which the temple is situated is very vast and there is lot of walking space surrounding the temple. The evening time many people sit in the grassland ground around the temple.

Beautiful old temple. Has many smaller temples inside and outside to be seen. Most of the temples here require the men to remove their shirts and the women must be clad in a sari.

This temple is right in the center of the town. The entire area is like a protected sacred sanctuary. As soon as you enter from the huge stone built main door (there are 4, in 4 directions) you land into this pristine garden. One can see all big trees mentioned in Indian mythological literature. The main temple complex is also built in black basalt. The temple outer walls are painted with murals. The Shrines of Shiva and Rama are must visit.

We went to the temple which is located in the Thrissur round on our way to guruvayoor. First of all, this is a huge temple with a bigger compound. They place is really well maintained with a lot of trees and gives you a sense of tranquility. The main deity is Shiva and it does have places from which you can pray to other important Shiva temples like rameshwaram. Overall you feel really nice after your visit to this temple. Do note that the temple compound area is vast and if you enjoy walking this is the place to come to.

Very old temple still following traditions. Spend some time in temple premises to get a soothing feel. If you visit in the morning, a walk inside the temple would certainly jack up your oxygen input.

The Lord Shiva called as Vadakkunnathar gifted Sivaguru and Aryamba couple The Adhi Sankaracharya when the childless couple prayed HIM for a child. Our prayers also will be fulfilled if you sincerely pray the kind and powerful Lord Shiva here.Beautiful, serene, calm and peaceful, the Ghee on top of Shivalinga is frozen for years and there is no fly or ants, ghee doesn't melt and is also to the tune of about 2 to 3 tonnes( As I heard from temple priests ), means no abhishekam or dressing for the lord which is unique. You have to remove your shirt or banian to have darshan inside temple as it is the tradition in Kerala temples. There are corners notified in the parikrama ( pradakshanam) path when you come around pointing out directions showing Chidambaram, Rameswaram and few other powerful and important Shiva temples in South India. Simply claim, turn to the direction indicated and pray, you get all punyas for having visited that Shiva temple pointed. Lord Shiva called vadakkunnathar ensures we get additional benefits and blessings.I always go early morning and walk inside the temple for about half an hour, a good exercise cum parikrama for Lord in a beautiful and healthy atmosphere. If you cannot walk in barefoot inside then walk outside temple inside swaraj square with your jog shoes. This is the only cleanest place without traffic at Thrissur.

I visited this temple in the evening. With the lights it was cool to enjoy the view. It was nice experience as I was not planned to visit it came on my way when i went for a evening outing. Spacious car parking. No trouble of beggars. No Rush in the evening. Altogether a must visit place if you visit Thrissur.

This is the number one attraction of our state since it always "attract" people. One of biggest and oldest temple which is a classic example of the architectural style of Kerala and has monumental towers on all four sides. Also a kuttambalam (temple theatre) is present there. Main temple has shrines of Lord Shiva and Parvathy, Shankaranarayan, Sree raman and Lord Ganesh. Rest of deities are outside the main structure. The temple is believed to be built by Parasurama, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu and it's main venue of famous Thrissur Pooram but not a participant in this festival. No new construction is allowed as the temple is declared as national monument coming under Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act.I usually visit the temple at evenings when I am at Thrissur. It's very calm and peaceful atmosphere there. PS: Non-Hindus are not allowed to enter into the temple.

A beautifully built Shiva's temple at Thrissur's Swaraj Round. This is where Sankaracharya's parents prayed to get the divine child. Very besutiful Banyan trees, giving a calm and serene atmosphere. Well maintined. There are toilets available outside the main gate. The locality around has good eateries and some local shopping....

A huge temple complex, dedicated mainly to lord Shiva. Its very beautiful inside. Quite packed on a Saturday morning. Salwars and Punjabi suits are allowed. Not necessary to wear a saree unlike some other temples in Kerala.
