This is an example of a classic Catholic Church constructed probably 400 years ago. It is not that much different from The Merced, also from the same era. It's well worth a visit.

A nice place to explore especially the convent area. The fake nun sitting in her room is a little creepy......

I spent a lot of time at San Francisco since it was very near the Spanish school where I was studying. The church, ruins, and Saint Hermano Pedro were all interesting. It was less than $1 to enter the ruins. The church has multiple masses each day and is a great place to attend mass. There are very good views of the nearby volcanoes from San Francisco, especially from the upper levels of the ruins. There is also a good small market area within the church grounds, and a number of inexpensive bakeries along the nearby streets.

Only a dollar or two to enter but well worth that very small cost to spend on hour or so wandering around the ruins and seeing the main church which is still in regular use and the small museum area dedicated to the priest who worked her who later gained sainthood.

We ventured here on a Sunday and it was bustling with locals. The church was overflowing, great to see and hear. The ruins from earthquakes were well worth seeing. We spent a good hour going around.

This place has a hopping market outside. The modern church is nice. But, the ruins are what is so interesting about this place. The walk is worth it to see the interesting shapes of the remains.

Went there to visit on my second day and the view and ruins the church offered were amazing for the 10 quetzales (1$). Really offers a background into some Antigua-Guatemalan religious history.

This was one of the few churches in Antigua that I hadn't visited and we ended up spending hours there. The grounds were hopping with church services, people visiting the tomb of Guatemala's only saint, vendors of every variety...and then the incredible ruins behind the active church. Beautiful grounds, places to climb and get picture-perfect views, fun places to explore and find. You could spend time here to contemplate or relax. Then we entered back to the courtyard where food vendors were doling out tamales, chile rellenos, pupusas and all sorts of treats. We scramble for seats along with everyone else, enjoyed it thoroughly...and topped it with some of the wonderful brittle-like nut candies everyone seemed to be selling. A fun and relaxing dip into real Antiguan culture.

Even though many churches were destroyed in the volcanic eruptions in the 1700s, this one has been restored and is very well worth a visit. Spend some time to admire the statues, they will leave a memory in your mind.

Antigua has over 33 churches and all are very impressive inside and out; but this one really struck me more emotional. Very massive, arch ways very stunning and to detail. A MUST see!

It's the one church in Antigua where you can't take photos.Watch people do penitence on their knees. It's a church that has Jewish symbols (ark, star of David, tablets).Interesting and colorful candles in various shapes.Clean bathrooms for a fee, bring change.

So many churches were destroyed in the volcanic eruptions in the 1700s, but this lovely one has been restored and is worth a visit. It is an active church, and there is also a market outside on many days.

Whole complex of buildings - hospital, school, church, monastery. Ticket really cheap. Worth the visit!

The museum adjacent to the church is inteesting and well worth a visit since the entrance fee is less than one dollar. I particularly liked the exhibition of no longer needed artifacts froom those who believe they were cured after praying to San Pedro. There were many crutches, braces, etc on display. Of greatest interest was the display of some of the actual garments worn by Hermano Pedro. After seeing his underwear you will have a new appreciation of Fruit of the Loom. The church itself is of simple but impressive design. Seeing people pray at the tomb of San Pedro was moving.

We went to Mass on a Sunday and it was very moving, the Church is in step with Antigua keeping to the old traditions. They selected my wife for the second reading which was an honor for her.
